Just thought I'd get some thoughts on something I noticed...

Check out the description and then the pictures ... take a close look at the body...

What do you think... scam? (external link)

I know eBay is plagued with scams, and I've been had a few times (ie. pirated disney DVDs) I usually don't come across so many that are of this transparent at this high of price tag.

Well, besides those being pictures of the original 5D it looks legit. :)

It's convenient how small those pictures are so they make it hard to tell but the dead giveaway is black hot shoe. All cameras since the 1D mark III have stainless hot shoes.

Just compare those pics to the ones found on DPreview.com.

I'd stay away from this but it could be that the person selling it actually doesn't know what they have.

my question is why he won't consider local bidders. wouldn't it save him money if someone picked it up instead of having to pay for shipping?

A lot harder to scam locally (which is what this probably is) ;)

Well, the seller is in Indonesia, that right there would put me off of it unless I lived there and they have no history.

Probably a scam. Maybe they'll actually ship you the original 5D. They've still made money and perhaps the buyer won't notice??? That's what they're hoping anyway.

It is the 5d classic. The screen size and erase button are clearly mk 1.

I always want C&C on my shots.

Registered five days ago from Indonesia.
No feedback.
Tiny photos of the wrong camera.
Virtually no information in the description.

I'd probably stay away from this.

I would never buy anything of that cost from ebay! Especially not from an international seller.

I see the box clearly and it doesn't have the II on it. I would have to assume a mark II would show that on the box right?

no, the first picture IS a 5dmk2 with a 5dmk2 box. it's just the body photos that are of the original 5d.

Gotta... I took another look and see it below. My thought was that the MarkII would have been next to the 5D. I guess this shows I have never been lucky to see a 5D Mark II in person :(

looks like an AWESOME deal!!! I think I will just send him my bank account info so he can deposit his rich prince uncle's savings to save it from the government. this is foolproof! I call dibs!!!

Yikes. I generally like my sellers to have 1 positive feedback per dollar im spending at least.

Scam.
