My new personal best - bridal photo from May 23, 09

I only wish I knew how I got this one. Some retouching was done, removing bra strap lines and a few stray hairs from her cheek. General color processing in lightroom. I think it's the best shot I've ever taken.

I know it's not perfect, but if I could figure out how to get shots like this every time I go out there and do a wedding, I'd feel pretty good about myself. However, I know that so much of how this photo came out is because the bride was absolutely stunning.

Camera settings: Canon 40D, 85L @ f/1.8, 1/160 sec., ISO400.

I think technically its a great shot.. but the pose seems very unatural and its kind of distracting

She was just getting her dress fixed up. I think I understand.

I like the portrait, very nice work with post process.

She is stunning!! I agree, it's an unnatural pose - I thought at first she was going to bust a move. lol. She looks like she is about to dance or something.

Are you sure there was "a bit" of retouching? Seems like massive retouching was done. I think the pose actually kills the picture, she looks like she has 14" neck to be able to turn her head like that.

The light was available with maybe some bounced fill flash, the eyes are her natural color, contrast and blacks were increased in lightroom, then I took away the bra strap lines and a few stray hairs in photoshop. That's what I did.

she is stunning! I think maybe it would have helped if you saw what was being done like the person doing up her dress. Her skin tone looks pretty orange on my screen, I would probably pull out some of the reds.

I think she'll love this picture though cause she'll know when it was taken.

Its a great shot Joey, but for my taste -- your avatar is 10 times better!

I don't mind the orange tint - adds a mood to it that is not negative.

the 85mm L is super money ... learn it - live it - love it.
Wish i had one. (mine is the f1.8 version)

Than I apologize for my assumption. I had figured you had transposed another head shot on to this one. I should stop doubting people, there must be a lot of people with longer necks than I have seen anywhere around here. Maybe a mutant gene or something.

Fantastic shot, as for the pose its one of the things I really like about the shot its not one of the typical canned shots you so often see. This is one of those shots that just sorta catches the moment which is what makes it stand out.

Regardless of the technicalities, I love the mood of this shot.

Thank you. Actually I have a very long neck as well, but she was slender and a real princess of a bride, and I certainly didn't do anything so major as to stretch her neck.
