My daughters had their dance recital this weekend (2 shows as usual). Here are a few pics, C&C always appreciated!

I love the subject matter, and you have done a great job getting the focus spot on and freezing the movement. However...

Do you still have the RAW files (if you shot RAW)?

I have a great dislike for really orange colour balances, and some of these pictures show it too much for my taste (note that others disagree with me, saying that the orange tungsten cast recreates some of the magic of stage lighting).

In these two files I have tweaked the colour balance a little. However, it's hard to get a good result when tweaking from JPG, as a lot of the important information is thrown away by the JPG compression algorithm.

Let me know what you think.

I so wish I could get my daughter into dance - I started her early and she decided she didn't like it. Now she's determined not to go :(

Hi Alan - I see what you mean. I do like your edits... I'll play around with the raw files and see what I can do. Thanks! See it always pays to post here:D

Meant to say, I used the shoes as a refernce for the colour balance, then adjusted to taste...

Great idea on using the shoes. Haven't had a chance to play with the files yet, but I will.

My daughters have been dancing a looong time. The oldest will turn 15 this year, and this is her 13th year of dance. The youngest is will turn 12, and this is her 9th year. It's non-competitive dance so no pressure, and they really love it. :D

I like the first shot (the version with a correct white balance).
If you cut the other arm on the background is also better.

Note:
I hope you will send many images of your beauty dancers. ;)

Thanks everyone. Here are a few more. I tried tweaking the white balance, let me know if these look ok.

Alan, I already see that if I shoot in RAW, I have more control in PP. I've never shot in RAW but it looks like it's time to learn. ( The PP I mean ).

ps, I'm enjoying and learning from all the dance reital shots here guys, my niece's is on June 20th, I'm getting ready!

I definitely prefer the pictures post-adjustment of the white balance.
I think maybe they're a little too on the "cool" side now, but that's just a matter of preference.

I shoot RAW at all times now, though, for white balance control

Some great shots overall!

In the second series i think you can erase the person on the background and on the last you could do a selective blur of the girl in pink.
