if the lighting was better perhaps it would be easier to "guess"

there are so many possibilities that guessing the right answer would only make a good guesser out of someone, not a pro. specially in a small version such as this, photoshopped and not very well lit or exposed.

135mm 12 17.14%
35mm 33 47.14%
50mm 13 18.57%
85mm 13 18.57%
70-200 6 8.57%

and the winners are........

Everyone who chose 35mm

Actual settings were 35mm f2.0 at 1.75ft
50% got it right which does say a lot but 50% got it wrong!

So my theory was right.

100 bucks says that if you had all the lens' from the poll listed in your sig also, these results would of been much different.

just sayin'

So very true. I'm sure someone will chime in with a similar poll with NO signature or all of the lenses.

What I'd like to see is someone take a picture of the same person with multiple lenses all at the same distance.

So was it a guess or a good reason?
Distortion of lower focal length lens are prominent when there is a depth of elements for compassion, perspective lines etc or the focal length is so extreme that tells about near fish vision or other extremity.
What made the first 50% to come with the right answer?

It's obviously an arm-extended selfie and you certainly cannot hold a 70-200, 135, or even 85mm lens out far enough to get your entire head in the frame. 50mm is possible but you're stretching your arms out a ways to frame properly so there'd be more struggle on your face. At 35mm it's rather effortless.

Not to mention the slight distortion.

The point of this experiment was that the 50 85 135 or 70-200 may be optimum portrait lenses but you can't really tell 100% which is which.
