I often seen the studio shoot that showed flawless skin tone. What's the favorite technique used and any tips on how to do it?

Search here or anywhere on the net about "skin smoothing" or "Skin/portraits retouching".

Good luck!

Easiest, and probably best output, is from a Photoshop plugin called Imagenomic Portaiture. I can get better results with 1 click and about 10 seconds of work than I could with 1hr using manual methods.

I constantly hype this software on this forum, and for good reason.

Can you post a couple of before/after images using this? TIA.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I don't really have any good studio head shots atm. Most of my shots are full body (ie bodybuilders). This is probably the best I have, but this girl's skin is already nearly flawless, so it's not a good example (the skin will almost look too smooth now).

But anyway, 1 click, 10 seconds (and 2 seconds to fix blemish on arm). The nice thing is no masks are necessary, and you can do hundreds of images in the time it would take to do a couple manually, with better results than 99% of manual methods.

If you have any better "before" images for me to try, just PM me.

Wow, that's remarkable. Thanks very much. Now if I can scrape up $200...

It's the best plugin I've ever used, and the most valuable tool next to Photoshop itself (well, tied with Pixmantra's FlexNR action for the 1D MarkIII).

Of all the dozens of plugins and actions I showed a former friend, a very talented graphic designer, and photographer... Portraiture is the only one to make him say "wow" and it's the only plugin he uses (he's not a fan of plugins, he would rather do it all manually, normally)

I've yet to see a plugin that can do skin smoothing better than dodging and burning. It's definitely the most time consuming though, but it's also free. :)

Is there a way to do this with LR2? or any way to improve skin tones and textures beyond reducing the clarity and burn and dodging and spot removal?

I'm using an iMac.

Yes, i am using Portraiture as well, also Noise Ninja can do a job of smoothing, also same company of portraiture "Imagenomic" has another plugin called "Noiseware Professional", i use it sometimes and it does really smoothing extensively and reducing the noise as well.

I don't have proper portraits that i can apply those plugins or actions or even doing some retouching on them, but i use my daughter shot here even she has a nice natural skin.

I gave Imagenomic Portaiture the good ol' college try and it does work on skin tones very well but overall I didn't feel that it did much more than what could easily be done in Photoshop besides cut time out of the process.
I do like to use Portrait Professional though and when used in moderation offers much more control and options over Imagenomic Portaiture in my opinion.
