Some of you may know the sport of Schutzhund...I've posted photos from it a few times.

Usually it is pretty safe although it looks like it is dangerous, but lots of folks enjoy it as a hobby and sport.

This series I took a couple of weeks ago in the Denver, CO area.

Even with the dramatic shots, the dog was perfectly fine and finished the routine well.

More about the sport of Schutzhund here :http://www.dvgamerica.com (external link)

You can see the rest of the photos from the event here: http://www.shellshots.com/09nationalsphotos.htm (external link)

First, a good catch:

Right after this, the dog got up and re-engaged the decoy to finish the routine.

At first I thought you had some weird scratches on your photos but then realized it is the line of drool from the dog's mouth (I think!) or is it a thread from the arm padding?...awesome!

Chris

Nice shots. There's a Schutzhund club near me in Birmingham, AL. Would love to have a good working dog, but just don't have the time.

Thanks, you'd sure think something had to break after that ...

Oh yes, that is slobber...it is still slinging through the air through all three shots.

And there are clubs everywhere...but to be serious with the sport does take a considerable amount of time. Well worth it in the end tho..

In short, Schutzhund is a three part sport, tracking, obedience and protection. Dog and handler teams then compete at Schutzhund "trials" in which they show their skills in all three parts in the same day (usually). There are 3 levels, from beginner to very advanced.

This series of photos only shows a single part of the protection routine.

If you really want to know more about it, try this link.
