Vectisbirder, How have you found the 40D at High ISO or in bad light? Im looking at replacing the 1000D for a 40D or 50D.

Canon 5D MK II
Canon 20D - works well for now. Aiming for the FF but awaiting CFO approval to pull trigger (July 1 2010 - wife caved in :D :D :D )

All Canon lenses - K.I.S.S

17-40 - picked this for daylight/flash wide angle work. Also a relatively inexpensive lens. Great image quality etc.

24-70 - work horse lens - I use this when I go running/sprinting ahead of the running formation - military. Fast, great IQ and can take the elements.

50 f1.4 - dark sky/star field lens. Fast great and works well during the daylight too.

100mm macro - my hobby lens. If you like macrophotography I highly recommend this lens plus extension tubes.

kenko extension tubes - for the 100mm macro

70-200 f2.8 IS - I got tired of the lack of reach. I take photos normally at 5am in the morning. This met the bill.

1.4x teleconverter - need more reach

gitzo p-pod monopod - if I sprint more than a mile I breath hard - monopod relieves the weight while I catch my breath.

manfrotto tripod - don't remember the model number but I use it for my landscape/astrophotography sessions.

580ex II - got tired of the 4am photos not coming out. Flash takes care of that. Though I have to admit a flash + 70-200 gets a bit heavy.

bunches of other stuff that my wife would kill me if she found out I have related to photography.

If your still reading
- Remember the "L" designation is like ... a designation . It's not a status symbol. Don't get your panties in a wad when someone says "x" lens (non-L) is better than "x-L" lens that you happen to have . Every lens is designed for a specific purpose and excels at that purpose. Otherwise it wouldn't exist. Primes are perfect for specific tasks and to be honest I would go primes if it weren't for my required rapid fire photography jobs. Zooms are for rapidly changing situations. Sigma makes excellent lenses. Tokina makes excellent lenses. Tammys are good too. 3 pixels blurred vs 2 pixels blurred isn't gonna make much of a difference on an 8x10 or even an 11x14 printed. Everything has tolerances. So if you find yourself sucked up into fanboisisms then you need to reevaluate your priorities. Just my two cents as most people who care about gear to the nth degree are the ones spouting junk on the forums. Care about the exposure.

Hope that helps

When asked if there were too many people taking pictures today, Elliot Erwitt replied, "All you need is a pencil and a piece of paper to write a novel, don't you?"
