40D gone of Canons web site

Weird considering how the even older XTi is still shown on the site.

That might be indicative Canon's new pattern, but confirmation from Canon would be better. I guess we'll find out in a month.

No doubt. I'd love for the new version to be out next quarter; it would be timed just about right for me to get something in the spring!

really to bad. i think the 40d is one of the best cameras ive owned and one of the best that canon's put out. what they need to do is concentrate on high iso capabilities and better sensor technology for the crops. and sorry 50d guys,,its not enough improvement in that department. i thimnk that as soon as everyone stops buying the latest gadgets so they can be the first on the block to have one, then the camera mfg's will finally get off thier butts and do some serious upgrades instead of all the little tid bits over the past 5-6 years. i stll have my canon ae-1 and my olypus om77af from my film days, they do the trick. so does my 40d and some others guys 30d and someone else's 20d. i think alot of us our are own worse enemys. heck im leaning towards another 5dmk1 v/s the 5dmk2 upgrade. new stuff is not necessarly better.

I still loveee mine =)

It would be good if it drives prices down.

Well, I went on Canons web site today to show a co-worker my camera and come to find out they removed it from their web page. Maybe its predecessor is on its way out?

And yet, the venerable XTi (announced Aug. 2006) is still firmly holding itself on the web site....Amazing. Well not really, since is such a good little camera!

Me too!

I think the XTi and the 30d/40d/50d cameras might be targeted at different markets and may explain the difference in timing of new model releases. Apart from the glass, the digitals are nothing more than a computer, so the desire for the latest and greatest will always be there and as technology advances, the latest and greatest will always be just a few months away. Wonderful for the camera makers, but frustrating for the end user at times, trying to stay at the leading edge of the technology.

I forget where exactly, but the easy way to show it is that the 50D came out a year after the 40D.

i remember canon releasing a statement that the 50D was not a replacement for the 40D per se, but more or less a model that was supposed to run concurrently in tandem with it for a while. i don't think the 12-month span between the two is a definite indicator of a new series release schedule as it may have just been done to stimulate the prosumer line a little.

I just sold my gripped XTi and all its batteries and chargers on ebay last night. I felt kinda sad taking it to the post office this morning.
