Let's just say that the new 24 TS makes the mark1 look less than impressive. Unfortunately the high price and larger filter size means that an upgrade for me won't be happening. Jul 13, 2009 23:44 | #7 It also looks (from the same site) that the TS-E 24 MarkII is superior to the TS-E 17 for sharpness, both in center and edges.

Yep, the 17/4 has to pay for its extreme focal length, and it's softer than the 24/3.5II especially in the corner wide open. But I usually shot with wide-angle TS-Es at f/8 or even f/11: at this aperture the 17/4 is evenly sharp and well contrasted troughout the picture. For instance, look at this 100% crop of the extreme corner with maximum shift (that's to say, 30 mm far from the optical axis of the lens!), no post production: to me it's impressive! http://www.oipaz.net/

Based on the shift (compare this to the TS-E 17 samples) I am guessing the "center" of the image is now the extreme... which is why the "corner" doesn't get any visibly worse. Still, amazing performance, and I bought it on the samples seen to date. roli_bark wrote in post #8275982 ![]() It also looks (from the same site) that the TS-E 24 MarkII is superior to the TS-E 17 for sharpness, both in center and edges It should be. That 17mm lens is a lot closer to a "10mm FF lens" if you consider the whole image circle (hence the front element), and is compromised both in IQ and tilt-ability (only 6.5degrees in comparison with 8.5 on the 24) to manage its unprecedented FOV. Very exciting optics, both of them, and I hope to put the 24 to serious use in the future. -CW

But the corner crops are now the ultra-extreme edges of the image circle, and even they show little-to-no loss of IQ!!. With the mkI things degrade rather quickly beyond the normal 35mm image circle.
