Needing something wider than the 17-40mm or the 16-35mm, the only real other option is a Sigma 12-24mm but after trying two of them and not be hapy with either copy I tried something else.

The Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 is fairly recent release and with picking up a copy of it and playing around the yard I think it will be a decent choice for what I need.

There is a vignetting at 10mm as can be seen in this image, no post on these except for re-sizing, didn't even sharpen after that. It is also a bit soft wide open.

At 11mm and still f3.5 the vignetting has almost disappeared albeit still a bit soft.

But stopping down to f/5.6 the image sharpness is starting to reach a reasonable level across the frame, still at 11mm

By 12mm I am not seeing any vignetting, however image sharpness increases even more at 13mm across the frame, this at 13mm f/8

These two shots have had some post production done and were just a couple of the ones I played around with in the yard.

For those that are interested the pricing for this lens is about $350 less than the Sigma option. Build is a reasonable, not to the level of any of the L's I have but Canon doesn't offer something similar for this body, haven't stuck it on any of the 1.6x I have yet but will give it chance on those as well in time.

Shaking like a hypertensive squirrel on meth? Buy IS, cheaper than detox & it works.

I just picked up this lens yesterday to pair with my 50D... as I wanted something wider than my 17-50. I will play with later today and put some pics up!
