I'm in.

anything to motivate me to start processing B&W again... and give me a righteous excuse to buy a film scanner. :P

lemme tell you, there is nothing like processing a roll of tri-x 400 at 200 and then seeing those 12 or 13 shades of grey make up the most beautiful image youve seen.

HAHAHA there's also nothing like shooting Tri-X 400 at 1600 with a deep red cutting filter and pushing it 2 stops with straight working solution X-tol.

same favorite film, wildly different preferences. I tend to abuse it.

Are there not film enthusiast forum already out there? Why would you want a film subsection in the Canon Digital Photography Forums. Wouldn't the name alone cause film enthusiasts to look elsewhere?

as i pointed out, i know this is a DIGITAL forum but there seems to be alot of talk lately about film and instead of going out and being on yet another forum (because im not on enough already) i can see a small subsection here which includes the members were all familiar with from POTN. the subsection would not be for film enthusiasts looking for a forum as much as digital enthusiasts who are on the forum and still into film as well. but if its going to upset people then forget it.

From what I've seen around here, the fastest way to get the Admins/Mods to notice a subject and have them consider it "section worthy" is shear volume of related images.

One just needs to get enough people posting scanned film and it might happen.

OTOH, scanned film images will most certainly be vastly outnumbered here by all digital captures.

I dunno if it requires its own section. But I enjoy the occasional thread here about film. Talking about film with people who mainly shoot digital (like me) is a different experience than talking on a dedicated film forum with dedicated film shooters.

I think film talk fits in here in the frame of General Photography Talk, even if the site has digital in its name. All forums have an off topic topic, and many have topics about the general topic that the website is a niche of. Like a general photography topic on a digital photography forum.

if everybody agrees that it can be contained in the general photo section then by all means.

to flyingphotog, my request isnt just a place to post images of film. most of my contribution to the section, if there is one made, will not be scanned images, but rather talk of exposing, developing, darkroom stories, just a very general analog section.

I miss those days spending hours in my darkroom, I built this room back in the 80's so I would not have to drive into San Francisco and use the school darkroom when I did not have classes. Came in handy as I started getting more jobs locally and shooting for some local papers. One thing nice, it sure is easier to archive digital, I am still trying to scan thousands of film and slides for archive.

What you overlooked is that people shot both formats as I do. I've seen in on another forum that people just talk more about the digital because there's more people talking about digital. If they had a place they could also talk about film, it'd be a nice place. Those people that shoot both formats rarely mention they also shoot film. Especially on Dpreview, you'll get in a heated argument over why shoot film in 2009 when they think digital is so much better than film and film is expensive and obsolete. :D

Why shun film users telling them to take a hike?

There's already forums here for buy & sell, classifieds, and digital video. None of which are about digital photography. A film forum is more photography than digital video or business of photography.

And I write this as I'm scanning film negatives I shot last month. So I'm all for a film sub-forum here because it'd be nice to have a place to see film talk without having to search for it through the pages of General Photo Talk. There are some sub-talk forums here that don't get many posts so that shouldn't be a negative against creating a film talk sub-forum

I told no-one to take a hike. Don't put words into my mouth.
