POTN gear envy help: 1dsmkIII for only....

3000!

Ok, so I came across a local listing for a claimed NIB 1dsmkIII camera for 3000. I have been lusting after a 5dmk2 for a while now, and photograpy is something I'd like to really start doing as a part time job. But a 1dsmk3 for almost the same price? seems like a now brainer.

I should buy it right? probably worth a 2hr drive to check it out.

There's an old adage: "When a deal seems too good to be true, it is." You're talking about a camera that's $6900 new... being sold for less than half. Do you really think this is true -- or, if true, that the camera isn't stolen?

The same thing happened to me, well close enough. May as well check it out

My deal was a 1D Mark III, Three Alien Bee 800's, manfrotto stands, umbrellas, Manfrotto tripod, manfrotto head, bags and cables for a great price!

I'd stay away from that, sounds like a scam or stolen.

3,000 what?

I got a 1DIII over year and half ago for under 2600$ US. it had 4500 actuations.
(Value at time- 3300+ish)
I bought a team motor Motorola championship Eddy Merckx road bike built with ungodly parts for 650$ from a co-worker. ( Value at time-2kish)

My first Digital SLR was the 20D for around 1100$... oh and it came with a 70-300 is and 18-55 and a 50 1.8 and a sweet manfrotto setup and a rad bag. That was around 5 years ago. ( Value at time around 1500-1600)

Local listing? What listing? CL? CL is a breeding ground for scams.

you just have to be careful is all. First, are you SURE it's a 1DsIII, not a 1DIII? People make that mistake all the time... Second, it could be stolen, missing parts, or whatever else, but it could also be someone who needs cash and is selling their gear. I see people undersell their gear here on PotN all the time, seems like on CL it's either people selling for well under what something's worth, or well OVER (MSRP for used gear?)....

If you can go check it out first hand I say go for it =)

3k! FML!!! Try to see if you can meet and see the item personally to confirm it is for real. But proceed with caution like others have said.(bodygaurd)
