The kids were playing around with the camera at the beach shot these few photos. I want to salvage them somehow. I was thinking of making them look like old newspaper clippings. I have a frame that would fit the theme. Can someone help me out?

I can't help with that, but the first one isn't all that bad with some selective sharpening. You could do much better with the original file.

I was gonna say, I wouldn't call these "salvage" pictures so much as "enhancement" pictures. The first one was improved by Frank's sharpening, and you could play with some contrast and maybe some light vibrance to add a bit more.

The second one just starts with color correction -- too much red on the girl and sand, followed up by the above.

The third, I'd up the exposure a bit, followed with some shadows lifting for the girl's face/head, then the sharpening, contrast, etc and it should look nice.

I bit of Light adjustments, and a frame to crop it in tight with a snatch of flare.

Whoever took those pictures either got really lucky or has a great eye.

Those are excellent photos, regardless of how well-composed they are or are not.

They are keepers. Just fix 'em up a bit. Don't change them or diminish their quality by doing anything funky. They are good as is.

And keep in mind, when you go to a concert are you really concerned with how technically proficient the musicians are, or are you there to party and have fun?

There's a reason more people show up to see Bruce Springsteen than the symphony.

Yes, the musicians at the symphony are really good (the best), and the symphony is a great time.

But most of the time we just want to rock!

Thank you. bw!

One more thing: You could hire a pro photographer and pay a ton of money, but those two smiles?

They're priceless, and you just immortalized them.

Thank you. bw!

IMHO this is the better crop. The guy in the background was distracting. The focus should be on the two terrific smiles!!
