Hello all,

I just needed to share some of my experience with the free evaluation copy of this OS.

We all know how bad vista is. We all know that xp is really nice but NOTHING compared with MAC OS.

Windows 7.0 has nothing to do with the 2 prev. editions.

1st It is very light. The core of this OS is 128mb instead vista almost 3 gigs.
2nd: Video gaming, video editing, photo editing is much faster and I noticed better colors.
3rd: The loading process is extremly fast and they have some MAC OS goodies.. Like moving a window slightly and everthing in your screen closes... etc etc.

Both editions 32bit and 64bit are totally free by Microsoft till 20th of August this year. After that you can use it for 1 year TOTALLY free with updates.
From 10/7/10 the programm will ask you to buy an original copy or reinstall the old xp or vista, if you got any.

It is a must for PC users. I totally recommend it.

while I had VISTA installed, my cpu ussage with just some typical windows on, was 48%

Now its 0,5% with more applications on!!.

enjoy !
The link to download your FREE copy of windows 7.0 both editions for 1 year.
http://www.microsoft.com …ndows-7/get/download.aspx (external link)

edit: I picked 64 edition and its a jewel!!!

And a tip. I have some technical experience and knowledge so I didnt upgraded my current windows, but I totally install them from 0 base.. Format etc.. I suggest you the same thing as you will avoid any trojans or spyware you may got. its my first day with windows 7.0 and I think I will stick with it. Its so fast that makes me believe I bought a brand new PC.

my current specs are

desktop pc.
6 gigs of ram ddr2 1066mhz (Now it makes use of all ram.. before just 3 gigs)
a very good graphic card with accelerator.
Intel quad Q9400
and 3 teras of hard disk.

Now I feel like I got this specs :)..

Thanks for the link [although I won't be installing it on my Mac].

This bit is quite interesting:

Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

I wouldn't suggesting installing this version, except to test out compatibility with your devices. It will cease functioning early next year, forcing you to install a full version.

Wow, and you'll have to pay for that, right?

The review sounds great, but I don't want to buy a new version next year - XP works fine for me.

I am curious, what's the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit? I don't know what I'm running now on my laptop, or which one is better.

Thanks,
dan

it's amazing, i work for IT for Commercial Metals Corporation and have been beta testing Windows 7 and it's unbelievable...the interface / looks of it is a lot better than any prior version of windows, and the overall performance is far superior...so far.

As far as 32bit / 64bit...the biggest difference the average end-user will notice is RAM capabilities. 32bit windows will only see 3.5/4 gigs of RAM...even if you cram it with 8 gigs. 64bit windows i believe can handle up to 128gigs of RAM.

64bit all the way ;)

Yes, you'll have to pay. This is merely for an EVALUATION VERSION.

Don't get me wrong - I've had Windows 7 installed on my photo editing desktop for months now in order to test it out with LR2, PSCS4, etc, with the knowledge that I'll have to put a legit copy on soon.

64bit allows larger memory addresses, so that you can have more than 3.5GB of RAM accessible in your machine. 16bit programs aren't compatible with 64bit operating systems (at least not in Windows).

I know you said you like XP, but you should really consider moving to Windows 7...the hardware requirements aren't that much more, and it's MUCH more secure.

The problem with "much more secure" is that it's new, and new items always need a lot of security patches. Right? So, this should be the same, right?

Thanks for the info on 64 v 32. Is their a way to check a programs compatibility?

Hmmm, tough decision. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with Vista :)

I have been using W7 since the first beta's came out. I love it. Nothing wrong with being cautious with your computer but the Win/7 RC (Release Client) is stable.
I have it on 3 of my computers in 64 and 32 bit.
The W7 RC will usable till March 2010. I plan on keeping these till then and I will switch to the retail version then.

BTW I have used Photoshop CS4, Acrobat Pro, MasterCAM X4, AutoCAD 2009, Firefox with no problem. I have run all of these same programs at the same time with no problem.

Win 7 has drivers for most anything on the market. It is backward compatible for 32 bit programs. Professional and Ultimate versions have "Windows XP Mode" for older programs.

I am sold, Win 7 is the best Microsoft OS I have ever used.

There is no problem about me and I am telling ya, I love it.. Its not a problem because I format my comp every 4-5 months, just to refresh it a bit.

since then I have to decide. New mac? (with pc technology..as all macs now use pc cpus and ram) or buy this version of windows.

Recently I read that mac's got a huge problem since they add pc tech on, with virus and spyware.

What can make me give away 3-4-5k euro for a pc-mac?

An other reason that I like w7 is the ussage of my pc power.. No more ram problems with photoshop tiff and psd files.. (sometimes with vista and xp..)

again, agreed...windows xp of course the best OS yet..until now. Since Microsoft seems to skip OS versions of suckiness (95 bad, 98 good, ME...well, it was me, Windows XP good so forth and so on)

I actually love Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition...but Windows 7 still seems to blow it out of the water.

Based on?

I think even the RC of Win 7 blows XP out of the water; superb 64bit operation, greater security, DX11 support, much nicer looking, barely larger footprint...I could go on and on.

I wish XP would just go away.

for lack of a better analogy (and i personally loooove film) but XP is going to be the film of the computer OS world. people will always defend it for being better.
