Should we have a poll? How many think it's a man, and how many think it's a woman. There is a clue in the photo (not the flag).

Hair is a 4 letter word that doesn't need to be bleeped.

Well you see, I know some hairy women. Male or female that bit of paradise still looks like jail bait--underage. Just check the news, it doesn't matter the sex. Underage still is a no-no.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Now I have 'Paradise City' ringing in my head.

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the 'girls' are pretty
Take me home (Oh, won't you please take me home)

It took me about 0.25 seconds to determine that the subject in the so-called "paradise" photo is male. The anatomy is consistently male--note the presence of lower hairs, straight line through the hip and pelvis, fingernails trimmed short...and the coup de grace, the rather obvious male genitalia. Yeah you know you looked there too, just admit it already.

The only visual cue that might indicate female gender is the bikini strap, but this is clearly nullified by the presence of the flag and the hot pink feather boa.

After seeing as many pride parades as I have, this sort of visual processing becomes nearly instantaneous.

I'm a little creeped out that you've taken a photo of a 14 year old bending over on short-shorts...

I recently took some shots down in Huntington Beach, CA. There were lots of young people--school being out and all--but as I looked down at the beach from the pier, I was immediately struck by how there was this very clear correlation between age and weight. Almost all the normal weight people were young, and almost all the overweight/obese people were older. I don't mean in their 60's, I just mean adults. And there were a lot of them. And this is in southern California....

Americans do need to lose weight, and they need to do it badly.

http://en.wikipedia.org …SObesityRate1960-2004.gif (external link)

That's only up to 2004. The trend has continued into the present. I should direct your attention to the fact that the obesity rate is the primary driver of the increasing trend, while the overweight rate has stayed relatively constant. This is extremely alarming. It is also a reason why health care costs have risen dramatically in in the past few decades, as medical advances enable the treatment of obesity and its comorbidities such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. But it is not simply the increasing numbers of people who require expensive lifelong care due to their weight that contributes to rising costs--it is also the fact that they are becoming obese earlier in life.

Americans need to have an honest conversation with themselves about their own personal, individual responsibility to be the guardians of their own good health, before even entering into a discussion about whether it is the drug companies, insurers, or politicians who are to blame for the current health care crisis.

Okay, off my soapbox and back to taking photos. That's one thing I love about photography--it helps me get out of the house and get exercise! :D
