you don't need the hood for it. Especially if you'll be using it for Macro mostly.

Very true... I have the lens and never use a hood for macro and rarely use one for non macro shots.

If you feel you do need a hood with this lens, I have a suggestion. The suggested hood for this macro is the ET 83B II, rediculously priced at about $44. The few times I needed to use a lens hood with the 100mm, I used the ET 67B which came with a used 60mm 2.8 I purchased. The ET 67B works fine and its about $25.

Also, I find I get great macro shots using a cheap monopod. No need for IS.

Another vote here the 100mm macro lens is a stunning piece of kit, you won't regret buying one.

Great to hear all these recommendations.

I can't believe I missed the $35.00 rebate. Even though Adorama was out of stock, they had it backordered for $490.00 yesterday and now it's back up to $525.00. Oh well...

I got one at Best Buy today. Asked if they would match B&H's price of $509 and they did without hesitation. They didn't even look it up!

I'm happy! :)

I checked bestbuy.com and none of the stores in my area have it in stock, same as adorama. Thank you, though.

The 100mm macro is a great lens. Try to buy it used and the price is close to new.

Great lens. I sold mine because I found that I wasn't using it. But the IQ is wonderful. Never used the hood but if you can't find the lens at retailers you could always refer to the buy/sell forums.
