So I'm on vacation on Whidbey Island... my original intention was to go see some bald eagles, but i happened upon this Osprey... he gave me 2 feeding shows of which i happened to catch.... I need a higher FPS on my camera.. T1i only does 3.4fps
I only have the 70-200 f4... really wish i had a 1.4TC
Hope you enjoy the pics, i thought his/her? show was amazing!

Great set of shots. The first time I saw this, I thought the bird had had a heart attack in mid air. :)

Amazing, well done for getting the shots! I never even knew they dived like Gannets, I thought they just plucked fish from the surface.

Dave, it's hard to see here, but they actually do not dive like Gannets, going in head first. Always, at the last second, they swing their feet forward and go in feet first. :)

Wow....I like those shots!

If I may i would like to ask when you said you jumped out the car did you zoom out all the way and used autofocus or did you have settings already set?

Just asking becuase I have several cases where I do the same and jump out to catch a shot and the picture comes out horrible.

So any info can help, thanks!

I use to watch a lot of these guys fishing the lakes when I worked at Mt. St. Helens. They look like they are diving in headfirst, but then the feet come forward at the last second. I have seen them go all the way under for 5 to 10 seconds, enough to get me worried, then come flapping out and carrying off a fish you'd need 20 Lb test line to haul in. These guys are far better at it than the Bald Eagle. :)

This was my 1st time shooting any bird in flight. I had the autofocus set to servo... jumped out, aimed and shot off continuously once things got in focus.
the shutter speed was set to 1/2000, iso 100 if I remember correctly.

hope this helps

thanks for all the compliments everyone, much appreciated...
