Thanks. I'm going to Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend to photograph some talented friends (and do a little climbing myself ). I'm hoping to come back with at least few worthy of submitting to the climbing mags.

Great captures ! I was climbing at horseshoe canyon last summer in arkansas, and I had my 20D up on the wall with me. It was a 98 degree day, so it was really taking it out of me...I didn't get many photos that are worth talking about....when I get home tonight I'll post up something. Trying to get a shot that really conveys the scene is hard ! I put the 17-40 on there, and it seemed to work pretty well....it was just me struggling I think is why I didn't get much. What do you shoot with when climbing ? You did an awesome job there.

....here...I found one on the pc here at work...of me...shot by a buddy, with my 20D and the 17-40. You can see....this rookie does the easy climbs !

I knew the 20D was a crop sensor but I had no idea it was that cropped!

Most of my shots from that trip to Red Rock (outside of Vegas) were with my 85 f/1.8 or my 17-40. The convenience of another zoom has been weighing on me lately as I have several upcoming climbing trips yet this year. I'm torn between one of the 70-200 (f/4 or f/2.8) and the 24-70) to go with my trusty 17-40. I do miss my 40D/Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 combo.

I've got some good friends (5.12/.13 climbers) going to the 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell in September, I'm bummed I won't be able to photograph them.

It's very demanding lugging "the tank" plus lenses up a wall to shoot from above but when it all comes together it's definitely worth it. Here's another I took with my 40D (and 135L) last January at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. It was a beautiful morning despite the cool windy conditions in the shade.

You really got some great shots. I'd love to go to Horseshoe Canyon to shoot that event. That level of climbing is for you younsters....I'm 57 years young ( ! ) ....too danged old for the serious stuff. HCR is a beautiful place....we went for a week in the summer to ride horses and relax....and I couldn't resist a few climbs, but like I said, the heat was brutal. Again....great shots...keep posting that stuff up ! That one of the guy in the yellow shirt really captures it.

Those are some nice rock climbing action shots.

Can't wait for the 1DsMkIV to hit the shelves so the 1DsMkII's come down just a little more. Does anyone thing $1500-$1,700 is a possibility if a new model is announced? It seems new DSLR's have slowed just a little too much recently and a new model should be dropping soon.

Sometimes being in college is quite annoying

What are the 1ds2 going for these days? I say it will go down with new iterations of the 1ds line. I thought I saw some used ones go for low $2k so high-mid $1k shouldn't be hard to imagine with the 1ds4 out in the market.
