Have just had our daughter born, so am taking every opportunity to take photos of her, one I've had in my mind for a while was her nestled into a teddy bear, with a plain white b/g - almost highkey I guess...

So I put pillows around our dark headboard on our bed, and a white duvet beneath her, and shot this following photo:

sooc:

The effect I was going for:

I used a 580II to flood the pillows behind the bear to make them as white as possible, so in LR2 afterwards, I used the adjustment brush to increase the exposure to make it pretty much all blown out... It's not right, some of the fur on the left hand side of the shot seems 'soft', as the feathering seems to have softened it slightly. Any ideas on how I can achieve the look that I'm going for please?

reshoot!

remove pillows and add paper background 2 meters behind subject,,,,,,,blow the hell out of it and you wont affect the subjects.

then light subjects with 2 umbrellas and i think you have a winning shot really.

Nice idea!! wish my wee one was still that small.......allthough..........erh......:)

lol :)

Thanks, I should have mentioned I only have a 580 II, don't have much kit I'm afraid.. it was hockey or camera kit - hockey won (though in hindsight...............)

Thanks, it's a fair point I may look for another flash.

man..........no way if hockey is your thing then go for that and compromise here! simply shoot in daylight

choose some nice time, like 9 am morning or 5 Pm afternoon when light is nice.

Put her in a shaded area, white b/g behind her in a sunny area to blow it out then use the flash in a brolly to fill in her!

You get hockey and a great shot! .....I think......i mean i dont really know....all i shoot is food

I love this image and felt it needed that dreamy softer look...
hope you don't mind...

Beautiful capture, and set idea.

Ah that's a great take on it Clare, thanks - I needn't worry about the blurry edges on the fur now :)
