Well, i have bit the bullet and bought a 5d MKII.
I am still sweating and panicking over spending money.
Really looking forward to my first studio shoot with the 24-105L that i had arranged for tomorrow, but the girl has just cancelled :(

Didnt realise how much more memory the RAWs would use. My 400d was 10mp and a 2 gig card allowed around 200, yet the 2.1mp 5d will only allow 63.
I am now in need of a 16 gig card. Is it worth while going for a SanDisK at around £80, or a cheap Kingston at about £20?

Equipment: Canon 5d mkIII, Canon 24-105L, Canon 100-400L, Canon 70-200L f2.8 mkII, Canon 100mm macro, Canon 85mm f1.8, Canon 430EX Flash.

Nice one budd :)

I ordered mine yesterday from One Stop Digital but out of stock til next week.

For memory card a Sandisk Extreme III (30MB/S) can be had from Amazon.co.uk for £58.

I personally wouldnt use a cheap memory card with a 21MP 5D II - Transferring images will take ages. Aslong as you get a 30MB/S Extreme III they appear to be overkill for most 5D II users.

Hope this helps :)

The down loading to the computer like wise will be slow.
How much is the 8 gig card in the UK? Get 2x8 rather than 1x16 thats if the price is still in the ball park.

I personally use Sandisk Extreme III 8gig cards. In fact, all I ever use/have used is Sandisk extreme III in all of my bodies.

Thanks guys.
I actually have 2x 2gig Sandisk III, and now a 4gig Sandisk II.
So might go for the 8gig III for £31.57 from Amazon.

What is best, d/loading from the camera or from a card reader?
Can anyone recommend a reader? i would prefer a 3' 1/2" drive bay one.

Kingston has worked just fine for me...dirt cheap too.

Congrats mate. Interested if you find it different from a cropped camera like I did!

Congrats! You'll love this camera. I always have stuck with Sandisk or Lexar cards, occ. a site will have them on sale. I would go with the fastest transfer speed on any card, and I prefer a fast downloading card reader.

I use the cheap Kingstons and love em. Download speed difference is negligible. Plus the price allows me to have more of them. 8gb Kingstons are going for about $24 now.

With the sandisk rebates, you can buy a 3-pack of the 8GB EXTREME III COMPACT FLASH CARD for ~ $85 from B&H.

BTW, just bought myself an Akasa card reader. Its built in (3' 1/2") and reads loads of cards.
It downloaded my 4gig at the rate of about 2 photos (21mp RAW) every 3 seconds. The camera took about 6 seconds for 2 photos.

Umm, actually, getting something you want is rather the opposite of "biting the bullet."
