I did not want to hijack the other gentleman's thread so I decided to post my own. I tried connecting the camera via USB to my MacBook Pro, and then turning it on. But Canon Utility never launches. This is a version that came with my 5D; do I need another version for the 1Ds? I then manually launched Canon Utility, but all of the options except "Monitor Folder" are grayed out, it won't let me select "Remote Shooting."

Any ideas?

Jared

I think you have to do it via the firewire port with 1D series cameras.

"I think you have to do it via the firewire port with 1D series cameras."

Anybody know if this is true? Looking through the manual, it would appear that the USB port is only there for direct printing, but I am not sure yet. I received this camera second hand, it did not come with a firewire cable.

Do you need the firewire cable to download images off of the camera as well?

If you want to download images without removing the card, then YES, you must always use the FireWire cable. Most of us take the card out, and put it into a USB card reader and from then on, no FireWire cable is ever needed.

Much easier.

Okay, thanks. I have a USB 2.0 card reader. I would like to be able to include my © info in the EXIF data though, and for that I will need the firewire cable. I'm not sure it's worth worrying about.

Thanks for info guys,

Jared
