If I had extra money to burn, and my XSi died, it would make an awesome backup crop body. Anxious to see some real world reviews and photo samples.

But, aside from an improved AF system, I would much rather keep my 5D Mk II than swap it for a 7D.

If I owned a camera like a 5D or 1D, I would see no reason to cough up the dough for a 7D. However, I currently own an old Rebel XT, and it is definitely time for an upgrade. It'll be a 7D for me.

the 7D is great, its the new grip that comes along with it that I don't like. It doesn't add any new functionality (no extra fps no joystick like on the nikon D300 grip) Just because Canon changed the battery I have to buy a new grip. AA batteries don't change in size everytime they get more powerfull?

I thought the new grip adds AF-ON and M.Fn buttons...

The spec's look very nice. Going to wait and see what owner's say on the forums after its been out a couple months. I was headed towards buying a FF body and still might. But a 7D vs. my 30D is looking like a lightsabre vs. a nerfcanon right now. Looking forward to seeing how the 7D does in the real world.

It does appear that the 7d will very much be a Jack of many and a master of none.

Sounds like a camera made specifically for me!;)

I am shooting with a 300D and was planning on upgrading to a 50D early next year, but with the announcement of the 7D, I may have to re-think the upgrade. If the camera lives up to the hype, I may have to dig a little deeper and get the 7D rather than the 50D.

And for those who are critical of the noise levels in the high ISO examples, I can show you excessive noise levels. The 300D is basically useless after ISO 800.

I voted yes, but that's assuming the full reviews are all positive. I'll be moving up from 20D.

I said yes in the initial excitement, but now I am leaning no. It's $1700, aps-c, and WTF am I gonna do with 25 megabyte RAW files? Do I really need 8fps? Do I care about 1080p when it is the same bitrate as the 720p? 19 AF points when I end up using just the center 95% of the time? 100% viewfinder - cool, but is .95x on the 50D so bad?

I am starting to think I just want a basic FF body instead. Leave the 7D to the sports and bird guys.

I had a mint lightly used 20D I sold here and bought a new 40D last August.

I've barely had time to use it.

Makes me wish I waited...

My 50D has not failed me once. It has surprised me many times. It continues to put a smile on my face and for me that is what counts, not being able to shoot 2 FPS faster of having 3 more MP. Infact I still have $500 left to pay on my gripped 50D. Why the heck would I change this camera??? I just LOVE it.

I like to build a relationship with my cameras. Today I picked up my Elan 7NE and it brought back some memories/projects we accomplished together. It's a great feeling. Why sell my film camera when it has never let me down once in the 6 years I had used it! This is the way I see things.

Lens on the other hand, I tend to not hold on except for the two "L" I have in my sig. Those I will never let go. My 17 40 has been a good girl in the 6 years I have it. Never let me down once and has always impressed me with the outcome.

Darn, I just love Canon and am way too happy when I hold my 50D after a month of not using it...like I just did today!

Thx

Absofrickinglutely!

Although it's a long ways away (I want to buy the 7-2 2.8 IS next, then maybe the 30 1.4 or 17-55 first), this seems like it will be an awesome camera. (By the way, is anyone in central Ohio hiring.)

I'm in.

I'm curious about the "waiting for price to settle comments". Do many people think the price will fall in the next 6 months. Given the initial reception, I'm skeptical that prices will fall
