Huge red spider mite :)

Well it was the biggest one i've ever seen - around 1.6mm body length. It was running at high speed around a water barrel lid- impossible to photograph but eventually stopped for a while to cool off it's feet on a patch of moss. Taken at 4:1. FF

Beautiful!

I have a series of images of one of these mites. You're right, they only have one speed: full throttle! Until they stop to feed. Mine was about 1mm in size. I used extension tubes with my MP-E to get a little more magnification.

I love shooting Acariformes. They are a very diverse group and can be found most anywhere.

BTW- I noticed you have upgraded to the 5D MK2. Do you notice a difference in IQ and particularly resolution between this body and your 40D? I'm asking because I'm thinking of making this upgrade in the near future. Thanks!
