I made a thread asking about the best place to shoot a band for a promo set. We decided to shoot at some botanical garden out on long island. Great bunch of guys but couldnt get 2 guys to look at the camera. I think they really killed some of the photos. Let me know what you think! I really like how they came out. All shots were taked with a 30d and a 17-40 f/4L

I'm not sure what they're looking for but nothing I see here would generate much interest in me to see or hear this band.

Not meant to detract from your work, just really uninteresting subjects.

#2 is my favorite, the saturation is perfect and i just love portraits taken up against a saturated brick wall.

#1 shows no attitude and little connection with you(the photographer) either have all the guys looking at you or all of them looking away.

#3 is better than #1 but why couldnt you just place the guy on the far left in front of the branch instead of behind it, that little detail ruined the shot for me.

#4 seems OOF and a unevenly exposed....you have the side of his left arm blown out and his black tee shirt with no detail whatsoever.

#5 there goes that brick wall again....cant object against that!

Thanks K - appreciate the constructive critisism from ya! I agree about #4, that spot we picked was hard to shoot bc it was dark and the sun was in the wrong spot. I tried to do my best with the editting. As for the guys not looking at me, I must have asked them 100 times and I gave up after a while. Thanks again!

yeah having non-compliant subjects can completely ruin your take on a shoot...after all the shots are for their use to promote their band....why wouldnt they comply with you...im sure you tried your best....those brick wall shots are a killa!

Again, lighting in the brick wall spot is great.

The other shots you exposed for the sky or backgrounds and not the people, a big no no.

A reflector could have helped a lot in #4
