3200 iso taken @ a dog show in a fairly dark "arena" with only the center portion lit by lights. Using a 70-200/2.8 stopped down to 4 because of the 1.4 extender.

Canon 40D vs Canon XTi - High ISO comparison

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=747030

This was my post. I find the XTi ISO 3200 to be just as good as the 40D. Should be usable for small prints and online posting.

I will try to get some more "real world" samples. I do not think the samples posted so far (in this thread) really show the full capability of the XTi and ISO 3200 :p

hey drummerhc... were you able to download the 1.1.1 on your 4 Gb flash first ? coz it says here http://www.canon.co.jp …/e4kr3_firmware-e.html#T2 (external link) that the maximum allowed flash is 2 Gb, so what do i have to do

I had 1.1.1 firmware on my camera already, so I am not sure.

have a laptop, but don't know what a pcmcia adapter is. Laptop is several years old.

a pcmcia card is one of those small flat cards usually on the side of a laptop (they've been around since the dinosaur ages).

here's a link to wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_Card (external link)

if you don't already have an adapter for it, it'd probably be more advantageous to just get a usb card reader instead.

1st, thanks for posting this- this is even funner that the day I got my XTi.

2nd- the image quality at 3200 is virtually identical to the 40D, sans noise reduction.

Do there happen to be any 40D hacks?

How would you use them ? For the last year and a half I was using just one focus point (typically center) since the multiple points seemed too much of a compromise. Always eager to learn a new trick though !

Whether I use them or not (probably not), I just like having"extras". I mainly use the center point too.

Well, I tried this, followed the instructions to the T - and now I have a dead camera. Once turned on, the green "on" light stays on until I take the battery out. It focuses, but won't take a picture, and the screen is dead, so I can't get into the menu to reformat or re-install the firmware.
Suggestions?

^ok, got this from the chdk site, "With a bootable card in and this card have no autoexec.bin file or bad autoexec.bin file, your Cam power led will turn on (green) but the lcd screen will not"
Have you copied the latest autoexec.bin file to your card?

Try to repeat the process from scratch. I followed it to a tee and it worked like a charm.
