I've been comparing different photography vests, trying to find the best bang for my buck, but also the most functional vest for my needs as well and came across this vest today... It's the Woolrich Guide Vest, link below. I wonder if anyone is using this? I wonder how the pockets (size, placement, etc) compare to some of the other vests such as the Safari Vest (POTN vest sold here), etc. Any feedback?

The Woolrich looks like a nice vest, but it it's difficult to tell how useful the pockets are without actually seeing it. In addition, the vest needs to have a mesh back, or else it will be very uncomfortable in hot weather.

I frequently wear vests and own a few, including the Campco Safari vest (the POTN Safari Vest is identical) http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ri_Photo_Vest_Medium.html (external link) and the already mentioned Domke. It's a toss-up as to which I like better. I also have the Domke Convertible Jacket/Vest, which I wear in cooler weather. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …Jacket_Vest_XX_Large.html (external link). IMO, however, the best vests are from the Vested Interest http://www.vestedinterest.com/ (external link) I have a slightly customized Khumbu, which will comfortably hold as much as a decent sized backpack, including a 500 f/4 or a Gitzo 3-series tripod in back. They are expensive, but if you need to carry a lot of gear and want to wear a vest, there is nothing quite like them.

I don't have a 1d, but I would be interested in knowing whether or not I could stick a 40D with either tamron 18-50, 85 1.8, or sig 50-150 2.8 attached to it down in that pocket.

A camera.

thanks ed... that's not a bad price either... if you don't mind me asking, how does the large fit you considering your height and other measurements? i'm always worried about whether to get a large or extra large... i'm 6', 225, 44 chest, 38 waist....

edited to add... nevermind, just saw your other thread on this very topic... i think the xl is the way to go so it can fit over sweatshirts and the like.

I also like the Domke vest

I agree with Ed Rader. I don't know about the Woolrich vest but, the Domke is a great vest. The mesh allows the vest to be relatively cool in hot weather and it provides plenty of convenient storage space for my gear.

The pockets are very useful but, you need to be disciplined about in which pockets you carry your equipment. If you are not disciplined it is sometimes difficult to find an item because there are so many pockets.

The vest has an added bonus for me. I use two cameras in the field hanging on a Optech Dual Harness with one camera at each side.

http://optechusa.com/product/detail/?PRODUCT_ID=87 (external link)

I attach a carabiner clip to each of the waist adjustment straps of the vest. I then attach the camera straps to the carabiner clips to prevent them from swinging freely as I walk around.

By the way: for Mycole

I am 6'1", 220 # with a 44-45" chest and a 40" waist. The extra large Domke fits me just great!

Does anyone know if you "have" to wear long white socks with black shoes while wearing a photo vest? :)
