Hi everybody,

I've had my t1i for 3 months or so now and like it alot. I have a 24-70L and shoot alot of scenic, portraits, stills some in dark light, some not (so I essentially shoot everything). I will be going to FF by Christmas with a 5DII. Question is, should I trade in my t1i for a 5d classic (+ a little cash) and jump to FF early? is it that much of a difference?

(and no, i dont want to trade in my 24-70L for the 17-55 2.8 :))

Thanks for your help!

Hard question to answer. Are you planing on keeping both bodies? Is there a specific feature that the classic has that your current camera does not? It seems like a lot of churn with little benefit, but only you can really assess that.

I woudln't be keeping both bodies, just the 5d. My biggest hopes are for better colors and better performance in low lights.

plus the 24-70 on a FF would be a tad better.

Anyone else made a transition from the t1i or xxxD body to the 5d?

Unless you need the video and the monsterous mega-pixels, I say wait and get the 5DmII. Otherwise get the 5D. You can still find some very actuation 5Ds around. I think I will be going this route come next spring as well

So is the plan to trade the T1i for a 5D, then in December trade again for the 5DII? Or trade the T1i for a 5D now or wait and trade the T1i in december for a 5DII?

I think that the plan is to trade for the 5d now or wait for the 5dII in december.

Sometime between now and december I'd probably rent the 5dII to compare with the 5d and see if I really need the further upgrade.

With December being so close then, I would wait. There is little advantage in jumping to the classic now. It's a nice camera, but it's old and in all honesty, your T1i probably does almost as good anyway.

i did. funny though, because i started also with the rebel and a 28-70 2.8L. i luv my 5d classic with that lens. but this compo is a bit heavy. for my purpouse, i didn't thought the extra $$$ worth for the 5d mk II

T1i prices are dropping like a rock. You can get a full kit used for $700. Sell it now, add $300-500 bucks and get a 5dmkI

Hi

i would never trade a T1i for the old 5D. Wait for the 7D and perhaps the 5DMKII prices will drop.
You wont get better pictures with the old 5D.

Both cameras are capable of fantastic images, but I'm sorry..if you think the 500d beats the 5d in image quality, all things being equal, you are mistaken.

This made me laugh. Do you have any proof to back up this statement?

There is this strange idea that floats around that IQ must be improving in great strides. So newer cameras simply must have better IQ than older ones simply because they are newer.

I expect the 5D to have better IQ than the 7D, never mind the T1i. The idea that four years development on a mature product beats format size physics has no basis.

If it did, the new G11 would smoke the 1Ds Mark III for IQ because it is three years newer.

I currently use 1DIII, 5D II, and T1i for when I want to travel light. I had 5D classic until a few months ago. Having used those cameras, I can assure you that I will choose 5D over T1i any time. I love my T1i, but no way its image quality to be anywhere close to 5D.
