I heard it had a sliding scale that was user selectable from 1:1 full frame to 1:10 for macro work ;) It must be true because I read it on the internet!

I hope it is October 6th. I suspect it is 2010.

I heard that if anyone has a birthday between October 6th, and October 8th (luckily mine is on October 7th), they will receive a FREE copy of the new Canon EOS 1D body that they are going to be announcing, along with 4 free lenses of their choice. (Seeing that this will be the fourth model in the 1D line. (not including the 1D Mark IIn))

I think I'll choose

EF 24mm f1.4L II
EF 300mm f2.8L I.S.
EF 400mm f2.8L I.S.
EF 600mm f4 L I.S.

Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)

I heard that too, and confirmed it with my co-workers cousin's dad who is a rep for canon in japan.

The most important doesn't sound like a camera. Why would their CEO be there for a camera launch unless the camera is mind controlled or something.

More likely, they have ironed out their SED stuff and are going to kill the competition with their new TVs.

You guys got it all wrong.

Look, I know people. And those people know people. And people "in the know" know that Canon has been looking to compete with Sony for quite a while.

On September 29, it will NOT be a camera. I hesitated to post this, but you're gonna find out sooner or later. Canon is looking to go head to head with Sony. This is the prototype of the biggest announcement in Canon history:

Looks like announcement will come in March, 2010

http://www.canonrumors.com …mark-iv-release-date-cr1/ (external link)

Not in 2009
Received an email saying we wouldn’t see the new 1D4 until the new year.
Canon will announce the camera shortly after the 2010 Olympics. This would put the announcement into the first week of march.
The games will be used as the final testing of the camera. It’s apparently going to be quite vigorous. It’s Canon’s hope to have the camera in the hands of photographers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
CR’s Take
This sounds plausible. Having a world class sporting event in the winter to test the camera sounds like a great idea. The World Cup is the bigger event.

Well that sucks!

What about us photographers who AREN'T loaded, and only have the means to buy ONE camera, but would like to get a 1D with the BRIGHT LCD screen, the top notch AF, and the latest features etc, but don't want to have to wait FOREVER for it?

Because SOME of us might want to take it on a trip to the Riviera Maya in a few months, so we want to get "used" to it before we go, and don't want to have to "settle" for a "lesser" camera, or we've been wanting a "pro" camera all our lives after 30+ years of shooting, and when we finally can afford one hopefully, Canon has to put a kibosh on things and make us WAIT?! How selfish can they be? LOL

And yes, while the World Cup may be the "bigger" event, I'd think that the Olympics are the more "important" event, not to mention they feature a wide variety of sports, not just ONE...soccer.

So the Winter Olympics to me at least should have been the event that Canon was aiming for to go for the gusto with. NOT to "test" the camera out on.

There are plenty of sporting "events" that they could try the cameras out on BEFORE the Winter Olympics. College football, pro football, MLB baseball, NHL hockey, NBA basketball, surfing, horse racing, auto racing, MLS soccer, golf, US Open Tennis, etc etc etc.
