So now that "CanonRumors" agrees with what POTN has been saying all along, it's their news?

Looks like announcement will come in March, 2010

http://www.canonrumors.com …mark-iv-release-date-cr1/ (external link)

Not in 2009
Received an email saying we wouldn’t see the new 1D4 until the new year.
Canon will announce the camera shortly after the 2010 Olympics. This would put the announcement into the first week of march.
The games will be used as the final testing of the camera. It’s apparently going to be quite vigorous. It’s Canon’s hope to have the camera in the hands of photographers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
CR’s Take
This sounds plausible. Having a world class sporting event in the winter to test the camera sounds like a great idea. The World Cup is the bigger event.
cr

Once again, Others said August,.
POTN said Feb-March 2010 aka in time for/at PMA
Others said September,
POTN said Feb-March 2010 aka in time for/at PMA
Others said October, (remains to be seen)
POTN said Feb-March 2010 aka in time for/at PMA

Canon rumors still has 4 months to get it wrong (or right and prove me wrong) and I would still consider Jan 2010 a win for POTN.

Well that sucks!

What about us photographers who AREN'T loaded, and only have the means to buy ONE camera, but would like to get a 1D with the BRIGHT LCD screen, the top notch AF, and the latest features etc, but don't want to have to wait FOREVER for it?

Because SOME of us might want to take it on a trip to the Riviera Maya in a few months, so we want to get "used" to it before we go, and don't want to have to "settle" for a "lesser" camera, or we've been wanting a "pro" camera all our lives after 30+ years of shooting, and when we finally can afford one hopefully, Canon has to put a kibosh on things and make us WAIT?! How selfish can they be? LOL

And yes, while the World Cup may be the "bigger" event, I'd think that the Olympics are the more "important" event, not to mention they feature a wide variety of sports, not just ONE...soccer.

So the Winter Olympics to me at least should have been the event that Canon was aiming for to go for the gusto with. NOT to "test" the camera out on.

There are plenty of sporting "events" that they could try the cameras out on BEFORE the Winter Olympics. College football, pro football, MLB baseball, NHL hockey, NBA basketball, surfing, horse racing, auto racing, MLS soccer, golf, US Open Tennis, etc etc etc.

Lol - I hope I detect sarcasm there!

I think we'd all rather they get it "right" rather than early...

I'm going to call the offices in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and anywhere else I can think of and ask. I really want this thing.

Well yes that was said, tongue in cheek...up to a point. Of course I'd rather them get it "right" rather than early, but with all the new fangled technology, and super high tech computers, and intelligent workers etc, why can't they do BOTH?!

Besides, they'll never know IF they got it "right" until the cameras are in the publics hands, and getting "real world" testing.

At least send ME a "test" sample/edition camera, (along with a few "L" lenses of course...the better the lens, the better the tests can be)so I can be one of their, "real people" testers.

I'll settle for that.

Of course, and as you would be doing them a great service, there would be no fee involved, other than you keeping the camera and lenses at the conclusion of the testing!

Where do I sign up? If it's "me proof" it's ready for production :)

Exactly!! Great minds think alike! How can Canon possibly argue with logic like that! *waits for BROWN...

Canon won't do a Mk IV as the number "4" is bad luck in their culture. Instead, they will wait 4 more quarters and release a Mk V in either the 3rd or 5th month of the 2010th year A.D.

I know someone from Taiwan, and in lab, they did not do reactions in sets of 4. If I recall right, they wanted to do reactions in sets of three. Weird

But they did skip the Powershot G4

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonG5/ (external link)

The PowerShot G5 was announced at the beginning of June 2003, it is the five megapixel 'companion' (it doesn't directly replace) to the four megapixel PowerShot G3 (which wasn't called the 'G4' because of the similarity between the word '4' and 'die' in certain Asian languages)

1D Mark IV - why do you think it will appear?

Everybody is talking about 1D Mark IV like it is known for sure that this camera will be released pretty soon. I wonder if there is serious basis for such thoughts. I have some doubts Canon will continue their APS-H line. The reason why I am thinking this way - Canon do not offer APS-H specific lenses, or EF lenses for WA and UWA on 1.3x crop. Releasing 7D as 1.6 crop is another proof of 1.3x crop's death. 7D is fast, great AF, weathersealing, etc. What else 1D may offer? If we put FF sensor in 7D we will get a camera very close to 1Ds..... And we all know Canon would never screw 1Ds sales such way.... (and this is a reason, why 5DIII wouldn't have all features of 7D, btw)
Plus, 1DIII has a pretty crappy 10mp sensor for nowadays still and it wasn't updated since.
And finally: with which model of Nikon that mythical 1DiV would compete?
So, why are you guys so sure in appearance of 1DiV? And anyway, even if this happen, but not sooner than Feb/Mar 2010, since Canon already has publushed its "Fall-Winter" brochure and there is no 1DIV there, of course....

What are you talking about? The ID Mark III will be replaced. There is no "why," just a "when." It may not use the APS-H sensor but it probably will because most people like it. And it would compete with the Nikon D3/D4 as it always has.

Correct me if I am wrong, but D3 is FF camera, and it competes with 1Ds, not 1D.

You seem to be pretty sure of how crappy the 1D3 10MP sensor is. Have you ever shot with this camera? And why does canon have to compete with a nikon body, maybe they'll make the 1D4 so that it's on a league of it's own.
