I do.

I wont take the chance of having a battery short out, without having a recourse if the cameras damaged from it. Plus my 5DMKII battery has a sensor that reports data to the camera.
I bought the Canon grip and OE battery. My battery life is exceptional.

Original batteries for the 5Dmk2. Mixed Canon and third-party batteries for older bodies. A big reason is that the availability of third-party batteries are better for older battery models. Another is that the camera is so expensive, that an extra battery represents a small relative cost.

the 5dc and the 1dsmk2 when i bought it was more expensive than the 5dmk2 is now... But really technology has leaped forward since those cameras, are you guys saying that you wont get the readings in the camera with third party batteries. I Assume its a BIG plus to have that, is it very accurate? if so I guess its only canon, any ideas where to get them relatively cheap?

First point to your questions.

1 - Only Canon Batteries works at the moment, 3rd parties doesn't work is because the Official batteries has a built in chip/sensor that sends data to the camera that reports various information such as current %, to how good the ability to recharge.

2 - Yes, it is very accurate, where the LCD shows the 4 bars, which i presume is 0/25/50/75/100%. This can now read the to the nearest percentage, not to mention if you have 2 batteries in (with the grip), it shows the status for each battery.

Congrats and welcome, I'd love to see some photos as I am still weighing out 7D vs. 5DII.
