Now I'm getting nervous about Abe's. They had the best prices on what I wanted. I suppose I should check in to more.

Thank you. bw!

You can never go wrong with B&H. Adorama, Canoga Camera, and Norman Camera are also outstanding.

Mike,
Per this link, Abe's seems to have made some improvements. This is a good site for assessing online vendors.

Good luck with your purchase - and enjoy your lens.

And I agree with the poster above. I normally stick with the 2-3 major retailers.

I would buy the 70-200 2.8 non IS and 1.4 TC from Amazon for $1515.15 with free shipping.

I bought my EF-S 17-55 new from Abe less than one year ago and did not have a problem. Their price was better than B&H's or Adorama's and in addition, living in NY state, I did not have to pay state taxes; actually their price was the best I could find around for a new lens back then.

The rebel XS is rated best for iso 1600. It rated better than the XSi and the XTi. It can produce noise-free images at 1600.

But it's a slow camera (fps). It's not ideal for sports. In raw you only get 1.5 frames per second and in Jpeg it's 3.0 frames per second. But I don't care. 99% of what I shoot is one-at-a-time.

How is Newegg as a retailer? They seem to get good marks at resellers and their prices are cheap.

Thank you. bw!

Too late, you missed the advice thread earlier.

Mike made a great choice. I would never get the 2.8 non-IS, instead I would get the Sigma 70-200 2.8 in that case. Been there, done that. I wish I could go back to my first L experience!

Now I'm just trying to find the best retailer.

My goal is to get the lens and the 1.4 teleconverter for 1500 or less, including shipping.

Thank you. bw!

I have heard good things about Abes as well recently, so maybe they have decided to step up customer service. I would order from them, but use a credit card with buyer protection, so that you are covered.

Is Abe's not reputable? I've heard they were good. I haven't ordered yet. I called this evening and they reserved the two pieces for me. Tomorrow it gets paid for, and then shipped.

Hopefully it will all go smoothly.

I ordered from them one Christmas several years ago and a couple days after that, my credit card number I used to purchase a camera there was used down the street from them at a Circut City. Apparently someone used the number to order $5000 worth of electronics but could not get the items when they came to the store because they didnt have the card. Never ordered from them again.

Well, 448mm FOV will be different from 640mm FOV, of course, but you should be fine.
