I want to change the ISO value on a raw file. Are there any programs that will let me do that like a hex editor? How would I go about doing that..?

Or you could lie, if they don't look at exif.

Maybe im wrong but i think Rene was talking about changing the actual ISO of the image.
You can modify the Exif to show it was shot at a different ISO setting if thats what you are trying to do. At least, i think you can.
Or just strip all the Exif out so nothing is shown. and then lie.

So, to get this straight, your assignment was to shoot at a particular ISO, instead you shot at ISO 160, and you want to doctor the "evidence" to say you shot at the assigned ISO, and you're wondering if you can do this in the Raw file.

It's pretty easy to do it in a jpeg file using a text editor, but a Raw file is harder to decipher without a Hex editor.

I'm pretty sure it can be done with software like EXIFTool (external link) but why would you want to do that?

Its reasons like this why Canon has its Data Verification Kit to reveal if any tampering occurred.

Nothing, unless the assignment called for something else :-)

So the teacher will check out the exif of the RAW file? That's one crazy teacher.

Photoshop, Lightroom, DPP and I suppose numerous Raw-capable programs extract/show the Exif from Raw files, so it's easy to check.

I can't believe that so many people are advising the OP to lie!

I don't know that anyone's actually advising him to lie -- in fact, if he was asking for advice, I might tend to say "I shot it at ISO 160, because it is an ISO 200 shot that the camera applied some compensation to, which allowed a faster shutter speed and has less noise than ISO 100!", but then that might confuse the teacher and get him riled up:).
