Challenge #242 - Bicycles
_______________

I am a bike person. When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the human race. OK, I did not really say that, H. G. Wells did. But I feel the same way. For this challenge, please show me the bicycles in your area. Photos will be judged on artistic merit - I basically like Impressionist paintings on my wall but I wouldn't mind the occasional Kandinsky. Good luck and have fun people!
_______________

RESULTS
First some short critique of sorts:

Chisel - Tires Are Flat But She Remains Graceful - This looks like an interesting Dutch bike in a weird circumstance. It looks like it should be in a museum, but it is clearly a bike being used since it is chained outdoors, yet have flat tires. Perhaps the owner doesn't know how to inflate the Dunlop valves?

Teekay - "Birthday Bike" - Apparently the recipient is a seasoned cyclist by the way he is balancing his bike at a wharf. I like the expression on the kid's face as he struggles to look cool when he is really ecstatic about his new bike.

Kevan_G9 - "End Of The Rainbow - It seems that Kevan was in a quandary as he shuffled through several entries before settling on this one. What's not to like? It's a beautiful steel bike with top-tier SRAM components. It seems to be a scene of the end of a beautiful ride, with a beautiful rainbow at the end. I wish the rainbow was a bit more visible, perhaps burned in a bit. And I hope that the rider cinched in the rear wheel tight with the strap. Love those Ciussi bottle holders.

Rpolitsr - "Sunday Meeting" - I love this scene, people biking for health and recreation, and perhaps just to get from point A to B. Very clear and sharp photo. Where are the helmets though?

CJinAustin - "Here We Go" - Now that is a thing of beauty. And the lady doesn't look bad either! I almost missed that this is a selective color shot, very subtly done and works. I just wish the toes weren't cut off.

Car - Jump! - The Van Halen song should be this photo's soundtrack. Good stop action shot. I would prefer a lower angle for a more dramatic shot, but I have no idea if the situation allows it to be possible. I am nitpicking though.

Michael Wells - Tin Man Rides - Really strange find! I like the whimsical nature of this shot. Though the wheels were cut off at the bottom, I see it as emphasizing the enormity of this sculpture. It may very well be small, but the worm's eye view makes it seem huge and certainly adds drama.

marie - "Transport For All Ages" - Vintage marie. An idyllic street scene with classic black and white rendering. I wish the dude beside the old man weren't there as he adds clutter rather than contribute to the scene. But it's a street photo, not a directed gig so who am I to complain?

fotowkr -" Moab Slick Rock Trail" - Ah this brings back memories as I haven't been to Moab since the mid 90's. Beautiful place. The bike seems tired after a day of tackling the trails. I remember the tires I used were different from these, I had slicks that stuck to the trail like glue. I like the Joshua tree on the right serving to balance the pic.

Maureen Souza - "The Price Is Right" - This photo brings me back to when I was a kid when I used to run to the bike section of the department store hankering for one. My dad wouldn't buy me one, he was about to once but my cousin had the misfortune of crashing his bike and breaking both legs. So my bike purchase didn't materialize until years later when I scrimped and saved for my own which I parked in a neighbor's house. Thanks for the memory, Maureen :)

WINNERS

THIRD PLACE - Teekay, "Birthday Bike" - I like the clarity of this shot. And it came from a G1.

SECOND PLACE - Michael Wells, "Tin Man Rides" - I'm a sucker for artwork, I'm a sucker for whimsy. This is whimsical artwork.

FIRST PLACE - marie, "Transport For All Ages" Wonderful street shot. 'nuff said.

Thank you all, I enjoyed the photos, and I apologize for the late conclusion to this challenge.

Host note: Can somebody please close this challenge for me at Monday noon GMT? I am currently involved with flood relief work here in Manila and I don't foresee myself anywhere near a computer at that time. I will be back to judge though, promise. Thanks!
