I'm sorry if I gave that impression. It wasn't my intention. I know there are very few cameras that handle 3200 ISO and above well, and none on the Canon side. I would like to see a 10 mp xxD (or 7D!) that blows the Nikon rivals out of the water.

I agree with this statement :)

How did you evaluate?
LCD?
Or did you use your own CF, take it home and evaluate the results?

just with the lcd in store... so i'm sure i'm a poor judge of noise levels...
i was just saying that i was initially disappointed with what i saw in store.

25 lenses? that's it? is there a list of these lenses? it better include the new 100mm 2.8L!

What is the firmware on your camera, out of curiousity, since no one has mentioned this. Also wonder if they have a site up yet for it.

the Firmware I belive is 1.0.7.0? As much as I can recall will double check tonight.

Who ever is getting this camera should upgrade their software! My photoshop that read my 50D images and light room also could not read the 7D images for some reason.

Light room 2.5 is out and the photoshop update 5.5 Works.

Do this while you wait :)

that is if you have cs4, correct? is it correct that you need cs4 to read the 7d raw? will cs3 work? what i don't get and what sucked in the past is that adobe requires you essentially to upgrade to newer version for some cameras. i don't understand why they cannot make newer raw added cameras work within a reasonably recent version of photoshop. i think it's a conspiracy for more money. surely the programmers are smart enough. if other software vendors can handled older version reads, surely adobe could figure it out, but alas, they don't.

^^^^I'm sure that CS3 will never work with the 7D. Adobe has yet to update Camera Raw for CS4 to work with the 7D. They never update an old product once a new version has been released. Since my 7D is on it's way, I hope that the New Camera Raw Update is out soon.

I used the new ACR Beta for the 7D raw files in CS4- I'm not sure the ACR Beta is doing justice to the images. Newer used the Canon software

Your evaluating noise levels based on the LCD? I know it has a nice LCD but come on, thats no way to judge noise levels.

Yeah, take whatever you see on the LCD with a big grain of salt.

The new updates that are out now from Adobe work with the 7D

Don't think so. Camera Raw 5.5 is the latest version available; released on 9/15/09. Added the following cameras:

  • Nikon D300s
  • Nikon D3000
  • Olympus E-P1
  • Panasonic DMC-FZ35
  • Panasonic DMC-GF1

No 7D as of yet.

i don't agree about adobe not making later versions compatible.
So is it safe to say that, let's say if cs5 comes out in march2010, then a 1ds4 comes out in april, that the 1ds will not work with cs4. if so thats crazy.

are photographers with the latest equipment usually the types that would also upgrade photoshop every version, no matter what (and apparently the only way for cameras to work that came out after a release of photoshop?)

That's the way Adobe operates. When CS4 was released and then a bit later the 5D MKII, you couldn't use CS3 for seeing 5D MKII raw files. You had to upgrade to CS4.
