Yeah I asked the guy and he said the stores would only have the kits, the body only is online. Unless that's just in Central Ohio, idk.

He hee...

Got myself one locally. A guy just down the street from where I live was selling his camera that came in yesterday for 1699. I just freed it from him. Now I gotta cancel the pre-order. Battery is charging and I will be able to spare my EP1 the ignominy of trying to focus on moving cars at laguna seca :-).

Feels chunky. Feels nicer to hold than my 5DII (Although memory of such things are vague at best).

As far as Best Buy goes, sometimes you'll get lucky (as I did with the 5d mark ii) and get them to sell you the display model. In which case you don't get the box, but it will be body only. Not to mention an automatic 15% off since it is an out of box item...but it takes some convincing sometimes to get them to do that lol

Really, how long after the release of the 5DII did they let you do that?

You presumably got lucky and scored a unit that wasn't abused in the store. I'd be worried that the insides could have been subjected to a lot of dust and prodding from shoppers who are unaware of how delicate a DSLR mirror and sensor can be.

I always shake my head when I see somebody place an ad for a used Camera on eBay or Craigslist, and they show a photo of the body sitting there with its lens off, wide open to dust. The situation with store display models could be much worse.

Sure it can be worst. Couple of times I saw cameras in Best Buy and Circuit City with bended shutter blades because somebody felt like sticking the finger down to the sensor...

The local best buy here normally has body only SLRs in stock but if they don't I could get the kit with the coupon for only a few dollars more than the body only online. So I will still head down there on Sunday. I can always try and sell the lens for $150-200 and put that toward a new lens.

I called Best Buy and the lady I spoke to on the phone said she couldnt take my coupon over the phone, BUT she said I could go to the store and place an order for the 7D Body Only and use the coupon there.

She didnt have any "insider info" on when they would have stock. She just told me what the website said, which was "estimated arrival of 10/15" if I chose Next Day Air.

I may give this a shot tomorrow.

I will see if they have it in the store on Sunday. The price for the kit with 10% of is 1709 so for $10 difference I get the lens. If they do not have them I will try to get someone to order it at that store and use my coupon but the coupon does say not good for Bestbuy.com orders.

There's the Best Buy Mover's Coupon. Available either in the USPS Mover's Guide packet from the post office or at http://moversguide.usps.com (external link) when you fill out a Change of Address form.. or you can look here (external link)

Then there's the Reward Zone coupon that they normally send to your home, providing you are a Reward Zone member.

Those are the only two that I know of.

And yeah, tax definitely kills the deal.. I guess it kind of depends on: (1) do you just want a 7D because you are unable to find one? or (2) do you want a 7D only if you can get a killer deal on one? I realized, as with many things, I have more time than money.. so I'm usually in Group 2.. however, reading everything I can about the 7D, I'm slowly migrating to Group 1. :)
