What do you guys use to clean off the smears on the LCD? Glass cleaner or what?

You can get some descent screen protectors from Ebay at quite cheap price.

I'm on my fourth Canon DSLR and I've never scratched either screen on any of them. I use my shirt tail or a microfiber cloth to clean them when they get too dirty.

personally i,m thinking about one of those pop up screen protectors ,i have already fitted the canon ep-ex15 eyepiece extender and i still get a smudged screen ,its fine to say just wipe it but thats a pain if you want to review shots on a frequent basis

changed systems to MFT olympus omd1-E.M1X , Olympus 100-400 zuiko .., xiaoyi 42.5mm f1.8 . four thirds mmm-2 ,, four thirds 11-22.. and pergear 60mm f2.8 macro

Does a screen protector help with smearing? I'm constantly wiping off the screen from smudges. But I love my 40D. Thanks!!

I have experimentally determined that a prefer a dSLR with a PDA screen protector on the LCD for exactly the reason of nose grease. It is on my 40D for exactly the same reason as my 20D, only for nose grease, not for any other 'protection' factor!

Without PDA protector, it was difficult to wipe off sufficiently to not continue to be noticeable unless I worked a bit with a cloth; with the PDA protector, a simple swipe with the ball of the thumb cleans it sufficiently (and I don't do it that often).

grab yourself an iphone 3G matte screen from ebay (cheap!) and cut it to size. The advantage is no more sun glare when review photos, no more oil spots from smearing. i use it for my 5dmkii. LOVE IT

That is what I used, a Young Micro protector, very nice. I still have a spare brand-new one for sale on the forum here for $6.50 shipped. You have to trim two sides down a bit, but it is a spectacular LCD cover cover. :)

I have yet to see a 40D with any deep scratches on the screen. I've come across a few that have extremely light scratches on them, but only because I was looking for scratches specifically and the LCD was off. When you're actually *using* the LCD they made no difference. I've had my 40D's screen run across buttons and zippers and it's still perfect.
