Is it true that these G11, .CR2 files are not recognized by 10.5, 10.6 and Photoshop CS3?

Maybe not... convert to .DNG with DNG converter and it will work fine.

Yes, I am trying that now.
Glad to see that resulting DNG is seen by Aperture too.

Why does this question come up every time a new camera comes out?

IF the camera was released AFTER the software, then it WILL NOT WORK.

Well..... because .CR2 files, from my other cameras do work.
So I just wanted to confirm what I was seeing.

not all .CR2 files are the same. idk why the majority of people assume that. sorry if i sound mean, it just seems a lil off if cs3 would support a camera that came out 5 years after it (being cs3) did.

I tried BB's s90 with some RAWs. LR needs to be 2.5 but my mac imported the files no problem...

Well.... CS3 came out in April 07.
My most recent purchase of a 50D uses CR2 files that are compatible with CS3.
So, I don't think the question is that odd.

OK, when did CS4 come out -vs- the 50D then?

Adobe updates one version. Once they new version is out they stop updating the ACR funtion but give you a FREE DNG converter.

I didn't know that. Photoshop CS4 was released in October of 08... So your saying that every camera released for the past year is not supported.

Sorry if I hijack this thread to bad, but, what software comes with the G11 for raw images?

I see on Canons site on the "in the box" page it ships with the Digital Camera Solution CD. Is that just the updated Zoombrowser with RAW converter or does it include the Digital Photo Professional?

G10 raw files aren't supported by CS3 so there'd be no reason why the G11 files would be. like others have said, converting to DNG using the raw converter works just fine. i've been doing that with both my 5D2 and G11 (although i seem to be shooting straight jpeg with the G nowadays).
i, personally, will hold off for CS5 before upgrading.

Yes. Any new camera that comes out after any specific piece of software will NOT be able to be read by that specific software.

As a generic example,

If Camera A came out before Software A, chances are very high that Software A and Camera A will work just fine.
However, if Camera B came out after Software A, chances are very high that Software A will NOT work together with Camera B. It will require the launch of Software B to resolve such problems or an update to Software A (e.g. Software A.2).

Hope that makes sense.

It makes sense but for the most part I don't think it matters whether the software came out before the camera, in regards to Photoshop. The Canon G10 for instance came out after CS4 but CS4 reads its raw files just fine. CS4 automatically updates itself to read the new files. The problem as I see it is when CS5 comes out,,, Adobe usually stops updating the CS4 index.

So the real problem is when a new camera comes out after your version of photoshop is no longer the newest version.
