I am trading in my old digital that pooped out on me this year. I admit I have very little knowledge of the point and shoots.

The three choices I have are the:

A590 IS, SD1100 IS, or the SX110 IS

Does anyone have any recommendations on which one to choose?

Thanks in advance!

What do you want to do with it? The A590 and the SX110 offer more user controls than the SD1100, at the expense of more bulk. They both also use AA cells, which I consider an advantage when traveling very much.

I only use the P&S for candid photos, as well as video, if that helps.

Is this an "only" camera? If so, go with the SX110 for the extra zoom range. If not, unless you want a super-small one, still go with the SX110.

no, not only camera, just one that's smaller for "non-work" stuff. :)

thanks for the suggestion.

So to sum up: Go with the SX110.

We decided to go to Disneyland at the last minute and the only camera I had with me was my 5D. Way too much camera to be lugging around on rides. We stopped somewhere and I bought the SX110. Not quite pocket sized but a seriously nice little camera. The 10x optical zoom kicks some serious butt over the standard 3x and 5x found in many smaller P&S's. Also an ISO of 3200 to work in those dark, dark situations where flash is just not appropriate. The only downside that I've found personally, is that this camera sucks AA batteries dry like you won't believe!

Can't say that I have any first hand knowledge of the other two cameras that you mentioned.
