Right, this is my first post here. I've been lurking around the forums for the last couple of weeks and decided to join. The wealth of information and knowledge here is overwhelming. I hope to become an active member here.

History: Just got my first DSLR 3 weeks ago. A Canon 450D with a kit lens. Here's a couple of images I've taken over the weeks and am looking for some constructive criticism or comments, as the title suggests.

The last 2 are my fave. I'm just wishing the neck wasn't cut off on the guitar. Kinda wish it was the whole geetar. Maybe a bit lower angle would solve that. Just my pref though. Also, I can see where the table cuts off. I'd clone more table back in or crop it. On the 2nd to last one, I wish it was a bit warmer. Good stuff.

I'm glad you decided to post and share your stuff. I dig.

Thanks for the comments. I'm still learning a lot about composition. (and everything else as well) Being in university, I find it a little hard to find time to really go out and take a lot of pictures. Can't wait for the winter break. :D

regarding the first photo. I think that a little more prep could have made this a very interesting shot. Smoke wafting up from the cigarette, or even some lipstick on the end might help. Also consider b&w. Lastly, there's a bit too much negative space on the right side. I think you should try a different crop or some other compositions. Otherwise the mood it sets and the dof are good in my opinion.

The second shot is nice but you needed to be about 2 feet more to the left to gain more symmetry....great exposure though. I like the composition of the 4th image...nicely done!

The cig shot does nothing for me. Kinda disgusting IMO. I like the water drop shot.

I wasn't looking forward to much when I saw the cigarette shot (very boring shot), but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the second shot. I just wish you would have moved just a foot to the left so it would be perfectly symmetrical. In fact, I think it would be worth revisiting this location just to try the shot again. But perhaps visit at sunrise or sunset when the light would be more interesting.

Appreciate all the comments. I do plan on visiting that location in the second shot soon. I'm finding a lot out here in the last 48 hours I have been on. :)

crop the source of the water (or most of it as it is very dirty) out of #3 - the water catch was perfect. I'm amazed by how much reflection it captures. I agree about cutting the guitar off - retake that one and it will be perfect!
