a very cooperative (or possibly a not very well?) Little Green Heron, who let me sit next to him to take his photo

IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2555/4005681701_5f181fb97b_o.jpg

and the after - the look he gave me after I slipped and got a shoe stuck in the mud of his pond.

IMAGE: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3500/4005681413_b3c052d4ba_o.jpg

and my final view of him

he was the second of these that I saw today. Usually they are long gone by now.

Great catch, Nancy. They don't normally let someone get very close. Oh yes... next time wear boots.

thanks Harvey. Mercifully, I was wearing Crocs, which are practically indestructible, but I fear my socks will never be the same.:)

only my pride and my sock suffered. It's only mud, I keep telling myself. But it does have a strange, swampy odor.

Well done, Nancy, but I do have one criticism: Socks & crocs? Never!

maybe not in Florida, or for younger people. But for an old fogey with arthritical feet, it's the only way. <g>

Excellent shots Nancy! Some birds are just trusting. Lucky you didn't drop your gear in the mud...heh..heh.

Great shots Nancy. Don't ya just love it when they play nice? I find their level of tolerance varies all the time but I've never been closer to one than 10 feet.

I had to smile about your sock and the odoriferous swamp mud. I know it too well. FYI, it smells even worse when you lay in it. :D
