Don't the fall/winter rebates from Canon usually start around this time of the year? Anyone know when they start?

Man, I don't know if I should wait or not. I'm getting a 17-40 and 70-200 f/4 IS, and I'm afraid they'll raise the prices on me before the rebate kicks in. Newegg has my lenses for $700 and $1100 respectively right now (some of the best prices I can find from a reputable authorized dealer). I'm afraid to get burned on these freakin' rebates, like I've read about so many times.

For the last few years Canon has raises prices to coincide with the spring rebates. They have not been raising prices before the winter rebates, of course they might shift from that pattern. Christmas has for the last few years at least, been the best time to buy Canon gear. They add sales to the rebates and you can get some good deals. Last year the 70-200f/4 IS was going for $900 in the Amazon gold box and the 2.8 IS was as low as $1375. I kind of doubt that prices will get that low but who knows. I think a lot of us have stopped buying new Canon lenses altogether due to their insane price hikes, so maybe they actually want to sell some gear this Christmas. We'll see.

The past few rebate offerings have been instant rebates, so no need to worry about getting rejected. They just aren't as attractive as the previous ones.

Newegg raised the price of the 70-200 f/4 is $100 in the past week. Ack.

Holding out for a good deal on a 24-70 2.8.

I noticed the price increase, too. Sucks.

Since the zoom isn't uber important to me, maybe I'll go used on it when I see a decently priced copy on my local craigslist.

I hope they keep the 17-40 at $700 until the rebates kick in... just a few more days (lol, wishful thinking) !

I was hoping the rebates will be out by the end of this week. We'll see I guess......
