I have been advised not to explain my photographs, so no explanation will be given.

Critique and Comments appreciated.

EDIT: Bonus point awarded for naming the song reference in my thread title, and double secret bonus points for naming the movie in which that song was so very effectively used.

I really find the dark wave at the bottom distracting because of such a high contrast to the water directly above it in the photograph. The colors seem to be a little under saturated, maybe try to bump them a little. This might be great as a large print, but I'm losing the expression on the man's face. Would be nice to see a closer crop as the empty water around the subjects make it seem like they're in the middle of the ocean(which, obviously, they're not).

I was up and down about the wave on the bottom. Here is my alternate crop. I do think the space (ocean) around them helps locate the shot. They were quite a way out, waiting for a big wave. I am not convinced a tight crop would have demonstrated that.

Very unique shot! I'm up in the air about the crop.

Rad, in my opinion that crop is much better. You can much more clearly see the face. I didn't mean an extremely tight crop where you couldn't get the vastness of the ocean in perspective. The crop is a great shot!

I like it. I wish you had a longer lens. The subject is still diminutive compared to the grayish waters.

I love the way the crop on the 2nd edit makes them very isolated - in the middle of the ocean. I also like the capture as is shows the trust the dog has with his owner

The pink hat spoils it for me, i dont know why he has one on as its not raining or sunny out

Right song! Now, the question remains, In what film was this song very effectively used?

Thanks,

I did not think of changing the hat color so something less noticeable, but I will perhaps shift it to a blue, like the board.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Rad

This title makes sense. Well spotted. If you've got photoshop, duplicate the original layer and blend both using multiply, this will darken the image and improve the contrast.

Winner, winner, winner! Great movie, and now that song gives me the creeps. As to the pink hat - thanks for your head's up. I will see how it looks w/wo pink and decide later.

I would like to zoom more, but (as you can see from the 100% crop below) I am near/at the sharpness limit for a reasonable sized print. Much more zoom, and I fear I will lose apparent sharpness.

Does it really look too bright to you? My monitor and printer are both calibrated, and they both present he image fine to me. Much darker and it will block up. And as to the contrast, well, given what I had to work with - a very dark, overcast day, with some atmospheric haze - I am very happy to have what I have. In fact, if anything, I was thinking of toning it back down for the final print.

AS PRESENTED ABOVE, DOES IT LOOK TOO BRIGHT TO ANYONE ELSE?

Rad
