Looks like the bottom part of the two flashes are the same, so maybe the rubberized foot of the 580 EX II fits on a 430 EX II, even if it's not delivered as standard. At least that's how I'd design it, if I got the task.

Yes, I am sure it is identical. If you really want to get one, you could buy an Off Camera Shoe cord for $35 and use the rubber from it.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea why they would do that. Thanks to everyone for clearing that up! wow, great having these forums!

The odd thing is, the retainer ring for the rubber piece is there on the 430exII and receives the one from my 580exII just fine. I have no idea why canon would leave this off since it really does make for a more solid feel to the flash when mounted.

Thanks again!

now I have to figure out why this flash wobbles so much on my camer body, my 580exII is perfectly solid.

Seems a bit of a no brainer buy the off shoe cord and thumb your nose at canon :D.

UPDATE:

so I called canon and asked for the rubber piece for the 580ex II, it was $9 shipped to me in 2 days. fits and works absolutely perfect! The 430ex II doesnt move around and feel like its going to fall off my camera body anymore. its not just for weather sealing, it really does work for making the flash feel as one unit with the body.

hope this helps someone in the future.
