40D, which is still a very capable camera and will be come my 2nd body, replacing an orginal Digital Rebel (300D)

Pretty much the same for me, 7D replacing a 40D that I am keeping as a secondary body, but the original camera in my case was the Rebel XT (350D).

From the 40D for me. As much as I would've liked to keep the 40D, since I'm not a paid pro, I really can't justify having 2 camera bodies. (Wife frowns upon the idea as well.)

I am expecting my first child come January and I wanted video feature as well as a camera with better AF. Prior to 7D announcement, I was thinking that the 60D might have slightly improved AF, and HD movie capabilities. I didn't want to hop on over to a 5D2 because of cost, as well as the need to get rid of my favorite all-purpose lens (17-55/2.8).

So when the 7D was introduced, I was pleasantly surprised by the specs. I took the leap of faith and it has exceeded my expectations.

Not to hijack the thread, but isn't the no Auto Focus in video mode a BIG handicap?

Maybe not so much now ---- Proud new owner of Canon 7D. Switched from Nikon D70s. Looking for lenses now.

So you have a wife like that too? Mine thinks I'm crazy with all the film/digital bodies I have.

The cost of the 7D was peanuts compared to my lens binge. I completed it the other day with the 35mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.8. The other lenses on my wish list are going to be there for a while, between the exchange rates and other price hikes I've been priced out of several of them. The two big ones right now are the 100-400L and 24-105L. The wife doesn't know about half of the lenses I've bought recently and I'm going to try to keep it that way. ;)

You can AF in video. AF is not that fast, but you can. :D

However, I am certainly not delusional in thinking any DSLR video recording at this time can keep up with fast action movements. There's the rolling-shutter effect to deal with and of course, insufficient AF. But I suspect my newborn son won't really be crawling all that fast for awhile and video should be fine. :)

It's the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. ;)

I think I'm done with lenses for awhile. I may think about the 85/1.8 later, or the 135/2. But for now, I've got pretty much all that I need.

It's the old want vs. need thing. I'm down to one Canon body and have put together a nice selection of lenses for what I do. Fall color is approaching and I'm going to forget about buying any more and start shooting.

Powershot S30-->XTi-->7D

I like to shoot all sorts of pictures but I like taking action shots so upgrading to a higher fps was a big selling feature. Was going to jump on the 50D and when word of a "60D" was coming I waited. Glad I did :D

I had a 5DMk2 and bought a 7D. I had a play with the 7D and decided it would do all that I wanted at this time. I then sold the 5DMk2 and my 12-24mm FF Sigma and bought a 10-22mm to fit the 7D.

Not sure it would be classed as an upgrade, but it suits my current photographic needs.

Canon EOS 5DMkII, Canon EOS 10D, Canon EF17-40L, Canon EF24L TS-E MkII, Canon 24-105L IS, Canon 70-200L f4 IS, Canon EF 1.4x Extender MkII. Original dRebel -> 20D -> 7D

20D to 7D is finally enough cumulative incremental improvements for me to justify the upgrade. plus video!

"Up"? It was limited to 50-400. :D

Oops, true, forgot! :) So, re-phrasing - "lack of high ISO" and "terrible regular ISOs". But feature and optic wise it was cool camera, I wish they make Pro2....

I didn't really upgrade from anything. It was more of an "added to" purchase ... giving myself a little more camera variety, if you will!
