Only an hour and a half to deadline for me.

I was born one year after WWII to family who by today's standard would be considered very low on the socio-economic ladder. NZ was also going through a depression and out population was less than a million. My father considered university education as being for those that did not want to work, photography, which his brother did as a hobby, and the arts were a total waste of time, according to him.

Treats were few and far between, would sometimes e a tupenny (2 pennies) bag of broken biscuits from a distant bakery to be shared with us 6 children. Sometimes, as a special day out we would be put into the Hillman van, taken to the beach and given fruit. That was a rare, and very special treat as fruit was not even as regular visitor as the bag of broken biscuits, on account of its cost.

Similar to Kent's childhood's dreams..mine revolved around Super Hero comics ....and I used to wait eagerly for my B'day or the festival season (Deepavali) when I get to buy comics !! And to this day the fascination continues for comics...and I get to treat myself liberally whenever I want.... :)

So many great pictures, and a great topic.

Soliwit, you gave me a deja vu experience there... I can connect so much on that "waiting for the cream left over from moms cake" feeling... Thanks alot!! You get my vote there.

Dyord, what a great picture. How did you do that? My guess is, lots of wather on the table, and a hard smash or shaking of the table that lifted everything. Great shot, as always.

Kent, I had two ideas for this competition at first, and Legos was the other one!

thanks kent.... it took me an hour to set up.. and another hour to shoot.. (plus another hour to select?!) I'm just glad I had time..

I didn't shake the table... it's actually a water hose sprayed to the table.. Then a sliced orange being dropped sooo many times to get this shot..

I watched youre flickr profile today... I like youre dropping olives in wather pictures, I can imagine that you had just as many good shoots this time. When I get time I will test out shots with wather in glasses to. My first idea for this contest was to use a Lego figure and smash wather around it to get more action... but runed out of time.

here's another version of it...

IMAGE: http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk291/DYORD/Photography/freshlysqueezed02_small.jpg

I'm really torn between this and the other one... but the original intent was the one I submitted.

Loved this competition, I just wish it was where I could have entered this go round..

All bring back memories and it was close for me on the best photo between Dyord and Kiwichris, but I will give the nod as my choice this week to Kiwichris!! Nice composition in that both the fruit and the beach are integral parts of the overall!!

Just an "ole dog" trying to learn "new tricks"! helpful advice is always welcome!!
