How do you find your 70-200f2.8 IS with your Canon 2X extender ?

I ask as for me who does not need 400mm very often but would like to have it when needed and at the same time not have to fork out massive amounts of cash for 100-400mm...

How is the IQ AF ETC...

It's decent in my experience with it, particulalry when stopped down a little bit.
You will definitely take an IQ hit but it sounds like you don't need to go to 400mm so I think it's a perfectly reasonable solution.

You will obviously also lose AF speed as well, but still manageable fir the occasional use.

I found it ok... It is not anything special. It is soft, focus is slow and while stopping down does improve, that does not leave a lot of light to work with.

You take a hit on the AF speed and IQ a bit however I successfully use it at airshows and at car races.......

I have had success with the 2x and 70-200 for years, but there are better ways to get to 400 mm. The problem is that that most other ways cost a lot more.
