I just uploaded pictures of the track action from one of the UK's largest VW festivals to my website. www.julianhunt.net (external link)

C&C most welcome please, good or bad, I'd like ideas how I can improve my Drag Racing photography?

Hi Julian,
A good set..the only thing I would say is your panning isn't quiet there..in that the backgrounds are distracting..if you pan more smoothly you'd get a nice blur that would be as distracting...other than that good work! Santa pods only about 10 miles from me and I still haven't managed to get there yet LOL

Another nice set.... you captured the color and the action very well.... I've always found it very difficult to get a clean background shot at a drag strip....unless you're at the "fast" end.....
Never seen a mini-bus dragster like that...kind of cool!
Thanks for sharing.

Love the 2nd from bottom photo, Where were they taken from? I assume you had a pass?

Never been able to get decent low down pictures at the pod :(

did you print these backwards? the steering wheels are on the wrong side.
Seriously, nice captures. I am also working on the panning techniques, you are getting nice results.
I like the composition in number 6

Thanks everyone for the coments, the feed back on this forum really is most valuable.

I usually pan at around 1/200th depending on the vehicle, I sometimes go a little slower if its a really slow car but I also start to get a lot of junk when I go slower. Are you saying that I can get a better pan with the same shutter speed just by improving my action? I will definately try to practice more, and also, as mentioned, maybe head up to the top end a bit more where the backgrounds are a bit cleaner, but then of course the cars are going much faster so a faster shutter would be needed.

It's a shame the 'Drag' season is over here now, next big meeting is Easter so I'll pop back here again in April :-)

Are you down on the track or do you just have a low vantage point?
