My goodness, there seems to be alot of people in here that seem to have the inside track with Canon. I am more inclined to just wait and see what comes, whether that is tomorrow, next week or next month.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

It's tomorrow because I had a minor thought about the 60D today. So it must be true.

It's puzzling to me that the current 7D is not the 60D. It is a natural progression of the xxD series. I don't know what they'd try to shoehorn in between the 50D and 7D both functionally and price-wise. I was hoping that the 7D would be a new cheaper 1.3x body. I wonder if Canon is transitioning to a single digit naming convention for all their bodies with updates being "Marks?"

7D is not a replacement for the 50D. Canon has made this clear and they ain't about to give up the lucrative market niche around $1000-1200 where the 50D has been a popular contender.

The 7D is their first effort to compete more directly with the D300/300s in the $1600-1700 market niche. In other words it's Canon's first somewhat more pro-oriented APS-C camera. Canon has lacked such a camera and have been getting their collective butts kicked in this niche. In fact, it's as if Canon didn't even know this market segment existed until Nikon started exploiting it, probably most notably starting with their D200 intro. We'll just have to see how the 7D fares.... But it seems to have made a good start.

Eventually it's quite likely a 60D upgrade will supercede the 50D. We can only speculate what features it will have... You can bet that video will be one of them, though. WHen is another thing we can only guess at. Canon has updated this segment of their line-up approx. every 18 months. Whether adding the brand new segment above it will slow down that replacement/upgrade schedule or not... well, we can only guess.

Both Krepta and amfoto1 have nailed it. Canon never played in the 7Ds field before, and needed an entrant. They needed to have a competitor for the D300s, and now they have one. As stated the 50D and the upcoming 60D is and will play in a different field.

The xxD line has been utilizing CF cards rather than SD cards. I don't see any reason for the 60D to change in that regard.

im willing to bet the "60d" is going to use CF cards.

I'm still not 100% sold on the idea of a 60D but am definitely open to it. All i would really want is the AF system the 7d uses + the 100% viewfinder. I couldnt care less about video or more FPS, or even more MPs.

If a 60D comes out, I can guarantee you it will not have the 7D's AF nor a 100% viewfinder. It might get an improved AF algorithm (over the 50D), but it's likely to retain the 9 AF points. I would like to see 11 AF points maybe. And it is also sure to have video. Whether it's all the video options like the 7D remains to be seen.

Be patient! 60D is on its way. Everybody expected the new camera to be a 60D but instead we got a 7D. Canon updated/incorporated so much that they decided to make a whole new class instead of following the old xxd series class. But like I said be patient, it'll come, most likely next year sometime. When it comes though I can guarantee it will inherit most of its features from the 40D/50D, I highly doubt they will incorporate anything new that's of any value (maybe a Digic 5 processor and more mp's).

I'm waiting for the 60D. I'd like it to have everything that the 7D has but thats not going to happen obviously. I'll take the same ISO performance, same video, microadjust, spot metering and megapixels. I can live without the fps, advanced focusing, 100% view, and weathersealing.

I currently have a xti and shoot almost exclusively center point so the lack pro type focusing and fps are not really deal breakers ( but the price of a 7d is for me). My main reason for upgrading would be for the iso performance and video.

Just a little correction, the 7D was never intended to be the 60D. It was created to compete with Nikon's D300s and bridge a gap in Canon's EOS lineup.

The 7D was intended to start a whole new class but everybody was expecting a 60D, I guess thats what I was trying to say.
