First, let me just say this is NOT a solicitation! .. I haven't been in the market to purchase any gear lately, as I'm happy with my OLD 30D, hehe. I haven't been shopping, but a friend of mine is looking to purchase an SLR, and just asked me if this is a good deal:

On Amazon.com, you can get a Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens, Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS, and a Tiffen 58mm UV Protection Filter. There's a $200 off option that makes the total come to $651.57.

I was surprised you could get such a package for so cheap, but I don't really know. If anyone has any input, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Trevor

Trevor. There are a few new bodies coming out.. the 50D came out not too long ago, and just released the 7D and Mark IV.. so prices are dropping I suppose.. But what is wrong with the 30D? What are your main reasons to upgrade to the XSI.. If your main reason is because you want more megapixels, unless you are making commercial billboard sized prints then it may be a sufficient reason

Good point! New models always makes for lower prices to get rid of all the existing equipment. I suppose that'd be a good reason for a nice deal like this.

My 30D is doing well, and I'm happy with it. I have a nice mix of lenses that I appreciate too, but a friend of mine showed me this amazon deal and was thinking of getting it. I think it could make sense for her, but yeah my 30D is probably fine for what I am doing. Thanks for the reply, it's good to hear from people that follow the marketplace a little more than I do.

Hey, that is a really good deal. I guess they're really trying to move some old stock. A year ago, when I was just getting into photography, I would have seriously considered that. I ended up buying a 40D and a 28-135 kit lens for something like 1200.

Prices for photo gear seem to go up and down an awful lot. I could sell my 70-200 right now for several hundreds more than I paid for it...

I'd call B&H or Adorama and see if they can match the price or even do better. They might beat it to get you as a customer.

Yeah, that is true. Just out of curiosity, what do you think a 70-200 would go for now? I happen to have one, but I'd have a hard time parting with it... I love it :D

Oh and one other thing to keep in mind real briefly - this is good with all cameras, so if you want another Canon body, you can still get the $200 off. Even if you're not a Rebel fan it could be a nice deal!

I actually can't find the link you're talking about...I think you may have meant this:

http://www.amazon.com …ics&qid=1257440718&sr=1-1 (external link)

However, the 200 dollars is already applied. Amazon is selling the XSi with 18-55mm for 800 after rebate. These prices definitely seem a lot more reasonable.

Which version do you have? I have the 2.8 IS, and I'm pretty sure I could sell it for 1600 right now...though of course I wouldn't either! :D
