I have had the same problem with 1.0.7 and 1.0.9. Now I wanted some last reference shots with 1.0.9, before installing the new one, but now the previously malfuntioning 1.0.9 suddenly behaved, except for one shot.

I'm as confused as ever. Magic?

Just now, I checked Canon Web Site and found Firmware 1.1.0. The updates included in this firmware are :

Firmware update Version 1.1.0 incorporates the following fixes:1. Corrects a phenomenon that in images captured by continuousshooting, and under certain conditions, barely noticeabletraces of the immediately preceding frame may be visible.

How odd. Installed the update and now I can here the sensor cleaning when switching on and off.
Just a very slight sqeek/chirp noise a couple of times.
Never did it when running 1.0.7

Oh well, nothing to worry about, just a strange observation

people were having that same observation as far back as 1.0.7. i guess its camera specific. some people observed that after a month the sound just went away.

I couldn't hear it with 1.0.7. I noticed it with 1.0.9. It's even louder now with 1.1.0... This must be progress!
